Is God Angry?

I can’t help wondering if all these brushfires in California are God showing his anger at the passing of proposition 8. I am curious because the fires seemed to start not long after the vote was passed.
It seems to be that being a loving and compassionate God that he would have approved of gay marriage. I have no idea if the victims voted for it or not. I do wonder though. What do you think?
I hope this discussion does not get myklied.

Nah, if God was going to judge and burn the Los Angeles area He probably would have done it a long time ago. Personally, I think God stays out of politics and leaves us to work those things out for ourselves. Wildfires are pretty common in that area, as they are in Florida and other places...just like other forces of nature are common depending on where you are.

I think God probably IS angry about a lot of things that have been going on in this world but I don't think that's why the fires are burning in California. I mean, why was he out to get Oprah, Rob Lowe, Christopher Lloyd and other celebrities and the people who lived in that trailer park that was destroyed at the same time?

Oh dear my post was an ironic comment and meant to be funny but everyone takes me so seriously. I always said I could never tell a joke. From what I hear some of the fires were started by people. We have the same problem here, some person plays with matches and the whole area goes up in smoke.

I completely agree with you. A loving and compassionate god would not make a big deal out of two people in love getting married whether they be man and woman, 2 women, or two men. God is supposed to be loving and compassionate, but to me he seems like a hateful p***k!

Being a christian, I leave the decisions over what is right and wrong, good or not, up to God. And I do not judge or prejudge him, anymore than I do people. Hopefully most christians recognize that it's God himself who gave free will, whether homosexuality was directly created by God, or is a genetic change, doesn't matter. The rule for Christians is "love". Of course there's the obnoxious and bad apples in every group, but the whole group should not be judged by them. Many people would rather there were Civil Unions, with full legal rights rather than the redefining of the institution of marriage as has been traditional in western society, as they see it as a foundation of western civilization. I don't think anyone should be demonized, nor stereotyped.. be they gay, or christian.

Hmm I doubt a compassionate God would burn peoples houses to the ground for revenge. I disagree with prop 8, but I think this idea of fire and brimstone is a little overboard. I'm sure not every house burnt down belonged to someone who voted for prop 8. I bet some of the homes belong to people who didn't even vote in the first place... and Im going to guess that some homes belonged to gays who are married.

To blame God for the fire engulfing Los Angeles area is absolutely wrong.
Why would He destroy His Own Creation?
No; do not blame Him ... The blame lies on the person who had set fire to the woods.

Don't get me wrong ... Where did I say that God Only Created Los Angeles ... Read my statement again (if you have not gone through it properly) and then label me what you want ... For, the Almighty is the Creator of not only Los Amgeles city but also the full Universe ... in which Humanity enjoys a Divine mercy!

It could be God's anger or it could be just nature's work. To replenish life, the fire is necessary in those forests. But i don't think God would have like the proposition 8. But who knows, He is God and He can do anything.

I don't think that god is angry at us. he is a loving and understanding god. I don't think that worldly disasters have anything to do with God's wrath or not.

Mmm ... I don't know. It seems to me that religious people are always saying that God is against homosexuality. It's suppose to be in the bible somewhere.

They have said that the fires were caused by humans - they were not an "act of God".

I am responding by email so I haven't seen other responses but, I don't really have much faith that there is a god. The southern part of California burn a couple of times a year. They don't get much rain there and it's very populated and those are always great combinations for wild fires. We use to get wild fires every once in a while when I lived in Neveda the last one was started by kids caughting lizzards on fire.

California has been having fires for years. Why in the world would you associate these fires with proposition 8?

Astonishing. Only one of 14 responses so far have picked up that this is an ironic jest.

Maybe He's angry, but I don't think the fires had anything to do with that... it burned down pretty much one of the richest towns in the country. Maybe God is angry because of something else. A lot of the peoples who's houses were burned down chilled out in an all-inclusive resort while it burned...

Ah so the only people who really got hurt were the insurance companies and they will make everybody else pay for this for a long time. Hmmm not sure about the animals but I don't think anyone reports on them so we will never know. The smart ones would have run of course but it was interesting that it was such a wealthy area that went up in smoke.

I think the fires are merely a coincidence. God loves all his children, gay or heterosexual.

Christians do, Sharra. And if they CLAIM to be Christian & DON'T, ipso facto, they are NOT Christian. Christian MEANS "little Christ," literally, & HE loves us all. And He told His follwers to do the same.
Some folks don't GET that, though, sadly.
That said, it =is= still a sin, according to His Word, but we are told, "Hate the =sin=, but love the SINNER."
When one remembers that EVERYBODY IS a sinner, it becomes not only possible, but =easy.=
Love,
Maggiepie

I doubt that the fires in California are God showing anger...if that was the case then he'd just smite down anyone that voted for the proposition. Besides that California has had fires for years and years and they can't all be b/c God's angry. It's one of the hazards of living in California like earthquakes.
I don't agree with gay marriages but that's my personal opinion. And I'm not sure what myklied is.

I'm thinking it's a typo for Mykled.. a famous guy around here, who is quite lovable, especially in how he challenges the (mylot) powers that be.. (or rather, I'm thinking has trolls dogging his every step!)

Are just one of my little jokes. I was hoping the discussion did not get deleted by someone complaining, the way mykl says his do. The term myklied is in Wikipedia as a synonym for having a blog or discussion deleted in sites like Mylot for deliberately flouting the rules.
Not that I am flouting any rules but controversial discussions that do not break the rules still seem to disapear here.

Myklj has his handle now in Wikipedia as a synonym for having a blog or discussion deleted in sites like Mylot for deliberately flouting the rules. I suspect someone from here added the entry lol.

Fires in this area are pretty regular and common this time of year and others. That being said, they are eyeing one as suspicious, they think it may have been arson that started on branch of it,but they are so mingled it's hard to say. California, especialy this and one or two aother area's are known for this though, the weather conditions and such get them going and spread them pretty quickly. You guys have similar areas in the outback do you not?

Maybe God is angry at Oprah for voting for Obama. That makes as much sense. Seriously, California has more than its share of fires. This is just another one, nothing more.

Marriage has never been about love. Back in the olden pre-Christian days men and women exchanged fertility symbols, which means marriage was a time when men and women coupled to have children. This makes gay marriage a ridiculous concept.

Gays have been around as long as the human race has been here. As to marriage it was about property, inheritance etc since fertility existed without marriage. So no reason why gay people should not be allowed to legally bind their relationship.
