What did my daughter say to the cat?

A few years ago, my daughter was lying on her belly on the floor when our momma kitty walked by her. Emie decided to be funny and "talk" to Momma - in cat. The sound she made really did sound like a cat - a sort of a little mrrrrooowwwll sound back in her throat. Momma-kitty stopped dead in her tracks, turned around and stared at my daughter, then stalked back toward her with her tail twitching in complete indignation. She stopped when she was almost nose to nose with Emie, then lifted her paw and just gave her a light "smack" on the cheek with her claws retracted. Once she delivered her smack, Momma-kitty turned her back on Emie and stalked away, tail twitching like a metronome of offended dignity. Emie looked up at me with a frown on her face and asked me... "Mommy - what did I SAY to her?"
What do you think? What could Emilee have said in "cat" that so offended Momma-kitty?

Well, I just tried it on Taj and he came up and purred at me. Did you have more than one cat at that time?
Of course, she might've just been saying to your daughter, "don't try to talk to me when you don't know what you are saying."
I've got to say that this is hard to type since Taj is in front of the monitor and he's as clear as mud!

Since cats (and dogs for that matter) think in pictures rather than in words, it would really depend on what your daughter was thinking of just before, during and after she spoke kitty. Animals language is more complex owing to the thought energies involved. If for instance she was thinking, I'm gonna put one over on the cat.. then the cat was correcting her and saying I don't think so...
People who communicate with animals all think in pictures and are very good at transferring mental images while those who have little luck with animal communications tend to think in words which are meaningless to your cat.

Heh! I wonder what Taj thinks you said to him?
We had -far- too many cats at the time. We'd adopted two female kittens and hadn't had a chance to get them spayed before they both went into heat at the same time and managed to escape the house on the same night. They both got pregnant, and both delivered their litters on the same day. It was actually pretty amazing - the two of them had always been very territorial toward each other, and fought all the time... but when they both went into labor, the pair of them crawled into a box together and we honestly never were able to figure out which kittens were whose. They'd lay down nose to tail when the kittens wanted to nurse and the kittens never discriminated - they'd roll over from nursing one one of the mamas and latch onto the other. Even better, the two of them literally co-parented the litters of kittens. They took turns taking care of the babies so that the other one could go rest or eat or play... it was one of the coolest things I'd ever seen. But... we ended up with nine cats for a while, and that was right in the middle of the nine cat period of our lives.
Sounds like Taj wants to know what you're saying about him!

I think you may be3 right. I'd have given her a stern look if she'd asked me if I was having a bad hair day - and kitty was always very vain about her tail.

Haha probably something offensive :P that is so cute though!
Your daughter probably made a sound that was threatening to your cat, so your cat assumed it would teach its 'owner' a 'lesson'. Obviously if your cat knows you, its not going to hurt you.
I mean, we torment one of my cats, and he always pats at our fingers, never with his claws out though. He's so small XD hes like an anorexic midget cat :P

I don't know about threatening, but I fully believe that the cat was "being a mommy" - it's exactly the way that she corrected her kittens when they did something wrong. We finally decided that she'd used a kitty cussword!

Oh that is just too funny! Must of said she looks fat! LOL. Or something to that effect anyway.
It is always kind of funny when a cat seems to act like they understand you. Our indoor cat is closest to my 11 year old daughter. When she says the cat's name or meows, the cat meows right back.

Now that's funny - that's exactly the age my daughter was when this happened. Emie's 18 now and she's still a total cat lover - and our two indoor cats adore her right back. They trot to the door to meet her when she gets home from work, and often sit outside her bedroom door and meow to be let in if she has the door closed.
