Abortions can reduce pre-eclampsia risk
OSLO, Norway (UPI) -- Women who have had two or more induced abortions have a reduced risk of pre-eclampsia, researchers in Norway said.
Affecting at least 5 percent to 8 percent of all pregnancies, pre-eclampsia is a rapidly progressive condition characterized by high blood pressure, the presence of protein in the urine, swelling, sudden weight gain and headaches, although some women report few symptoms. Women who have previously given birth to a child have lower risk of pre-eclampsia, the researchers said.
The study, published in the International Journal of Epidemiology, shows that women who have had two or more induced abortions reduced their risk for pre-eclampsia by 60 percent. Women who have had one abortion have an approximately 16 percent reduced risk for pre-eclampsia compared with women who have never had an abortion.
The researchers said the results indicate that every normal pregnancy, even if it ends before birth, to some degree will protect against pre-eclampsia in a later pregnancy, almost like a vaccination.[/i]
Is it just me or does it seem like this Family Freindly email including this is just a joke? I can almost understand having one abortion, but multiple ones? You would think that someone would learn after the first one what causes that. Would you have had the same reaction reading this in your email?

I am pro-life, too, Erilyn, and when I tell someone in these parts where I live (in very liberal San Francisco) that I am pro-life, people turn and look at me as though I am the murderer... because these people have all bought the propaganda put out by the pro-abortion forces that women are dying by self-induced abortions and we have to make abortion available on demand to protect women's lives.
NO. What those women really need is good counseling to see the challenge they face.
I had an abortion 37 years ago. I very much regret it. I was railroaded into it by my aunt because she did not want me to tell my mother who would have become hysterical, you know.
If I had gotten counseling, I could have made a REAL CHOICE. Choosing abortion usually means they haven't been given an opportunity to really think it through, is what I think.
Even if I gave the child up for adoption, after 18 years that child might come looking for me and I would have a child in my life.
As it is now I am a childless woman and past menopause. It is very sad.
Oslo, Norway. The Scandinavians believe in abortion. They also believe in euthanasia and gay marriage. In Denmark where gay marriage is legal, straight people have stopped getting married because it doesn't feel sacred anymore.
Those Norwegians have divorced themselves from God, that is the problem.
I belonged to a minister's email discussion group some time ago. There was a minister in Norway who was bemoaning the state of affairs in his country -- with abortion and euthanasia. People there are turning away from God's Laws. It is sad.
What kind of company is Arca Max? A lot of liberals have talked themselves into thinking that a woman's right to choose is paramount to God's Law. They may not realize that the woman might not have chosen abortion if she really got proper counseling while she was pregnant.

First let me say welcome to myLot! And let me add that I am sorry to know you were pushed into this decision. My mom tried to push me into the same decision, I told her in no uncertian terms that there was no way I was having an abortion. I asked her if she could imagine what life would be like without me and the answer was no. I said you didn't make that choice but you expect me to. I already had a daughter that was 2 1/2 at the time, and I simply couldn't do it. I decided that adoption was going to be best for the child knowing that I couldn't take care of 2 kids. I chose an open adoption and met my sons parents before he was born and they were their with me when I gave birth. I miss him and it is still hard almost 14 years later on his birthday but I will never regret what I did for not only him but his parents. I can't imagine the pain you have gone through with the choice that you were forced into. I made the decision long ago that I would neverforce my kids into a decision like this. My daughter is 15 now and preg. She is almost 16. I told her that I would support her in any decision that she made. She is going through counseling and is getting all the information that she needs to make an informed decision. While I may not like the decision that she makes, ultimatly it is her decision to make. I urged her to pray on her decision, and go where God leads her. Since here in the states she can basically do what she wants to about it without my consent I can only hope to educate her on her options.

This sounds like a classic example of a very nasty type of spam. I really don't know what the motives behind such emails are.
Pre-eclampsia is a fairly common complication of pregancy, especially of a first pregancy. Because it is fairly common, your doctor or midwife will be well aware of the possibility and will be very ready to give treatment if necessary.
The real facts about pre-eclampsia can be found here http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/complications/pre-eclampsia/ It's important not to be too concerned about it. Although it may affect about 7 pregnancies in every 100, it can be controlled and it's worth remembering that the majority of pregnancies result in a completely normal child.

Although this particular email looks like a standard news feed giving brief details of recent research, I agree that its subject and tone is highly inappropriate in view of the "Family Friendly" subtitle of the site.
While there are people who sometimes need (and are able) to consider an abortion as an option in certain circumstances, it should certainly NOT be advocated as a way of avoiding pre-eclampsia, as the writer of that article seems to suggest!

It wasn't the information in the email per say as much as it was a "family freindly" company that looks like they are supporting abortion. I am not preg nor do I plan to get that way anytime soon. My youngest kid is 12 years old lol. The discussion was more of how do you feel about a family friendly company seeming to promote abortion.

I have never heard abortion being advocated for health. That suggestion is certainly not family friendly. In pregnancy a midwife takes blood pressure and looks at a sample of urine. At 36 weeks pregnancy I had high blood pressure and protein in my urine. My midwife thought I might have pre-eclampsia so I went for testing in my local hospital. No I didn't have pre-eclampsia but they found out my baby had spina bifida. The next day I visited the fetal medicine unit. In the morning I was offered an abortion and I said no way. In the afternoon I viewed the special care baby unit and that a very emotional time for me. My son was born at home then spent 3 weeks in a special care baby unit.
No pregnant lady wishes to develop pre-eclampsia but having abortions to avoid getting it would be awful. A reason for a lady to have an abortion might be not wanting a baby at that time in her life like she might be in the middle of her degree. Whilst I would never have an abortion but adoption would be fine if I needed to. I respect that people have the right to make the choice to have an abortion if it is legal. I think that many people will complain about the content of the email. Abortion is unfortunate for the lady and kills an innocent baby. Pro- choice people think it is the lady's right to decide and they don't say abortion is beneficial. I am pro-life.

I myself am also pro life, I had a baby that I couldn't take care of and my mother wanted me to have an abortion, I just couldn't do it so I gave him up for adoption. I have 3 kids of my own, and couldn't imagine the world without them. I couldn't imagine killing one of my kids, so for me abortion is completely out. What got me most about this email was not only was it for "famil freindly" company, but it seemed to advocate multiple abortions.

Huh. I hope nobody decides to get knocked up and aborted just for this. Plus, I don't think it's the best arguement to say, not outlaw abortion, but it is an interesting piece of news. I don't think that this information should be withheld by people who don't want abortions to happen, but I can't imagine them sending it out either. I've never actually heard of pre-eclpampsia, so I can't say I know an inkling about it, if it's an epidemic, or rare, or anything.
