I used to post a monthly editorial on another site, and have decided to restart it here. First subject California's proposition 8, and any other law banning gay mairrage. To tell someone who they can marry or even who they are allowed to love is just wrong. If you support laws against gay mairrage, I want you to answer one question: Why do you hate gay people? Why do you want to deny us the right to marry? Marriage isn't about religion, it isn't about politics, and it sure isn't about gender. IT'S ABOUT LOVE. It's about being with one person for the rest of your natural lives. Now I'm not asking for much. I just want the same rights as every other free American. Is that too much to ask?!

I don't have a problem with gay marriage either but I'm in Florida so I have nothing to do with what happened in California.

How did you vote on the Florida measure?

I voted against the ban but didn't expect to be in the majority since gay marriage has never been legal here.

No it's not too much to ask and I voted against prop 8 and wrote blogs and discussions and all kinds of things about how it was wrong. Maybe I should have written them BEFORE it passed instead of afterwards. Who knows, might have had an impact.

I always go by the fact that marriage was instituted by God and since Adam was a man and Eve was a woman, that from then on marriage was only to be between man and woman. Also that point about love has me suspicious. If Joe is married to Brenda, and he not longer loves her but he loves Emily more, so is it right for him to divorce or cheat on Brenda since they are married with Emily? Consequently if Travis is married to Susan, and suddenly discovers that he loves Harvey more than he loves Susan, is it alright for Travis to divorce or cheat on Susan with Harvey since according to the ancient Greeks, the love of men is better then the love of a man for a woman? You can marry who you want as long as the person is of the opposite gender. We just hate the things you do like demanding that you are more important, that you have a right to break up homes and take a husband from his wife because you are a homosexual, or a wife from her husband because you are a lesbian. We do not hate you for your humanity, but we hate what you are doing.

if Your god loves everyone doesn't he love gays and lesbians too. I find it hard to believe that if a god created everyone he'd make people who would be hated simply for what they were.

Wait. Nobody said anything about breaking up straight mairrages. Where did you get that idea? We don't want to break people up, we want to be allowed to be with the ones we love. And please don't start on the Adam and Eve thing. Not all of us in this country believe in your God, so why are you forcing your religious views down our throats? And what we are doing is loving each other, the only way we can, the same way a straight man loves his straight wife. Why do you hate that?!!!

I agree with you that it is wrong to deny them the right to marry. it is about love not about gender but the moral majority still control the rules. Australia compromised by not allowing marriage but recognising their legal rights by allowing them to be legally de facto couples so they have the same rights as any other legal couple. By denying them the right to marry they are denying them the legal rights of being partners and that is wrong. Even if they will not allow them to marry surely they can give them the legal right to be partners and have all the rights that other partners have.

I've never understood why the government needs so much control over someone else's life. Live and let live. Allowing gays to marry doesn't hurt anyone else, so where is the harm in it? People have fought for decades for equality... between the races, between the sexes, between our differences in lifestyle... yet here we are, the most advanced civilization in the world, and we're just taking steps backwards. It makes no sense to me what so ever.
