I feel that they can be separate and go hand in hand. It really depends on perception. If you are constantly worried about bills, debt, meals, clothes, etc. then you probably won't have peace of mind. Of course if you can sustain yourself on very little and you have people who love you, appreciate you, and care about you, then you can have piece of mind. It just depends on the person I suppose.

Thanks for a practical response. I think that the net crux of the discussion that is finally emerging is that one will have to learn the tactics of how to achieve the peace of mind. Simultaneously, one should not shy from accumulating wealth as well for a rainy day.

for me peace of mind is very important. its true that when you are involved in accumulating wealth you lose peace of mind and time spent with family. this generally happens because you change yourself when money come to you and you forget where you are from. the person who is down to earth even will have peace of mind if he is earning lot of money. it is in our hands to make our life peaceful and happy.

It is really a very interesting angle you pointed out. For example, couples today all over the world are working out long hours for financial reasons to save for the future. But they are so tired out at te end of te day that they are not able to connect on aspiritual level. Little issues snowball into slanging matches.

I want to say that peace of mind is more important to me than money. But I believe that sometimes you wouldn't be able to have a peace of mind if you have a financial problem in your life. And having lots of money is nothing when you don't get the peaceful of mind. I think both of them are important equally, because for me, if I don't have one of them, my life would be unbalanced. I need money to maintain the peace of mind, and I need peace of mind to enjoy the money I have. Having your life balanced is the most important, according to me. Because if you remove any factor, your life would become crippled and incomplete.

Thans for the response, I never saw a more accurate one. Your response reminds me that in ancient Indian cultural system, it was a cycle of four phases viz. Celibacy in which attainment of education is the most important factor Grihisthashrama or the stage where you marry and have kids Vanaprastha in which you study the literature Sanyasa or the stage of detachment The gradation is so fine. The money earning stage is the grihisthashrama. One cannot renounce the world before earning money and fulfilling his responsibilities.Only then the peace of mind can be attained.
