My computer seems to be slower these days. I have asked around and was told to stay away from You tube and limewire. My husband seems to think I am wrong and that everything in the world has a risk. WHATEVA!!!!!! COuld someone please help me? AM I wrong. I was told that you tube can do terrible things to a computer. Limewire also. Whats really going on with these sites? DL

As I have posted on my earlier discussion, I stated their that my pc got infected with the so-called sowar.vbs virus. So I surf the net on how to totally get rid of this virus. Then I encounter this site, www.bleepingcomputer.com. They have lots of tips and also answer your problems regarding computer. I have read this paragraph in their site, always at the end of every suggestion to a problem regarding viruses: "Avoid online gaming sites and peer-to-peer (P2P) or file sharing programs as they are a security risk which can make your system susceptible to a smörgåsbord of malware infections, remote attacks, exposure of personal information, and identity theft. Many malicious worms and Trojans target and spread across P2P files sharing networks and gaming sites. In some instances the infection may cause so much damage to your system that recovery is not possible and the only option is to wipe your drive, reformat and reinstall the OS. The best way to reduce the risk of infection is to avoid gaming sites and not use any P2P applications. Read P2P Software User Advisories and Risks of File-Sharing Technology. When I scan my computer, I got two kind of virus, Trojan and this sowar.vbs which is worm type virus, and it is found mostly on the music I downloaded from limewire. So try to be careful with Limewire, and when you insert flask drive, scan it first before opening. One reason why computer slows down is viruses, so I would recommend Kaspersky Online Scanning.

As someone else has told you, clear the cookies, etc... Also, make sure you have good virus and spyware protection. You CAN get viruses from downloading songs from sites like limewire, bitlord, etc... If you have a good virus scanner, either it will scan everything you try to download, or you may have to scan them yourself with the program. Unfortunately, there are risks to downloading anything from the internet. That is why we have such sophisticated virus protection programs. I have to say that I have no idea as to WHY people make these viruses in the first place. I think they need to get a life! I have had 2 computers crash because of viruses, and one was so bad that my computer guy couldnt even fix it. Be careful.

I have been using Limewire for about a year now and has had no problems with my computer and I do a virus scan on my computer just about every day. The same with YouTube, it do not do anything to your computer. The only reason I can give for your computer running slow is because someone has downloaded too many files onto the hard drive. The only solution is to go in and remove some of the files and do a disk clean. If that do not work you made need someone to look at for you to see what the problem is.

Limewire especially can slow your computer down and so can youtube. I hope you have good virus protection. any programs you download onto your computer can actually slow it. My daughter downloaded not only youtube & limewire but a bunch of other things on my computer. I pay for hi-speed and yet often times my computer crawls. Someone above suggested cleaning out the cookies, etc. yes...that does help quite a bit.

Try to scan your computer for possible virus as Limewire is prone to virus. You could also try to clean your cookies and Temporary internet files. Try also to defrag your computer to make it faster for your computer to operate. Viruses from this site can do terrible things on your computer.

I don't think youtube would be causing issues but i would be wary of limewire. Because files being downloaded could be a virus and not actually what you are downloading. Try going into control panel and clearing your history and temporary files/cookies. It may help it a bit.

Hello, I'm not sure if youtube can cause your computer to run slow but I will let you know what happened to my computer I was not able to get on it for a whole day and I honestly think that Youtube had something to do with it. I personaly don't use youtube but my hubby does and I noticed that my windows was deleted because of a virus. What I thought was strange was that I never had a problem like that till my hubby started using youtube. All I can say is that you should follow the instructions that the one response said about deleting your temp files and cookies. I had to do that and then had to update my virus programs to keep this from happening again. I hope that you get this figured out and good luck. Happy Mylotting

Limewire can give your pc viruses that is not a myth, but if you watch what you download and have good virus protection it isn't a huge red flag. I have never heard of Youtube causing problems though. I always watch what I download, like PDF files or new software. Any site you visit that claims your computer has a virus and to download their program now to fix it is a no no. I messed up my pc a few years back when I freaked out thinking my PC was already affected and downloaded software from one of these sites. Trojan messed my pc up badly.

Periodically you need to go into your administrative setting and go into the cookie's folder and delete all the links. This will help speed the computer back up. Also if you have windows you can set up screens for each person that uses the computer and then set there screens so that they can't access certain web pages. Also get Adware or another firewall program so that it will help protect from viruses and stuff you don't want on you computer.

I know there are risks in every corner. the best that you could do is prevent them by having the best protection on your computer. Its not worth it to argue over a computer. Make a deal with your husband and daughter. let them know what you feel. Tell them if they download something they need to do whole computer scan and save the file else where. Just make some deal with them. Talk to them slowly so that they'll understand you.

Maybe limewire causes some delays on your computer. This site is about downloading stuff so it occupies memory in your computer which causes the delays. Youtube may also be the reason but I think its not. Try to do system scanning coz your computer might have viruses that can also cause the delays.

Limewire I believe you download things. Youtube you don't. Youtube you simply view video's...at least that's all I do there. Any site that you download from can be a risk. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

I have been on youtube many, many times and I have never found that my computer has gone slower. It can be slow on streaming the videos sometimes, but they are quite big files sometimes.. Perhaps you computer needs a defrag or maybe empty the cache in your browser perhaps.. :-)

Sounds like you may have gotten a virus, do you have protection? Can you run a scan? This is what our computer is like when it catches something and if you are on the internet it's easy to get a virus.

I think you should get your computer defragmented it will get all the files closer and make more space on the hard drive ,we found someone in our local paper to come out to us worth the money and it will help.x

I think your computer needs defragmenting and has to many files and folders, deframneting organises all your files and makes more space on hard drive, get someone in to sort it out for you as my husbands computer has speeded up like crazy since we had the computer man in worth the money or what.
