Teacher Craft Ideas

This year, with money tight, I'm planning on making most of the gifts I give to people outside the immediate family. We always try to acknowledge my kids' teachers at Christmas with a little token of appreciation - and I try to avoid things like "A+ Teacher" fridge magnets. Last year, I got lucky and found these great "fruit jar mugs" - coffee mugs made in the shape of classic canning jars - hand-painted with snowflakes and snowmen for 25 cents apiece! I invested in a couple of bags of chocolate kisses, a spool of curling ribbon and a sheaf of red and green tissue paper and voila! In less than an hour, I had fourteen Christmas gifts for teachers and coaches for less than $10. This year, I'm looking for some kind of simple craft item that my high school age boys can make for their teachers. Any suggestions?

"I gather you do not want any tacky suggestions...but here is mine! Be it of any help. I pick up cheap frames at yard/garage/swap meets! With cardstock & calligraphy it says; "TO TEACH IS TO TOUCH A LIFE FOREVER." CHEERS1

I don't think it's tacky at all . I've done similar with little slate chalkboards picked up at the craft store. If I wasn't looking for something that my boys would like making, I'd be doing calligraphy scrolls with this poem: http://www.taylormali.com/index.cfm?webid=13 In fact, if I could afford it, I'd make sure that every teacher of my acquaintance had a CD of that poet's poetry about what it really means to be a teacher. Thanks for your response! I'll bet I'm not the only one looking for ideas on what to make for teachers.

what i would suggest is a dry soup mix in a jar. i found a recipe for you with a picture. it doesnt cost much but it is a welcome dinner in a jar for a busy teacher! we made them a few years ago and the teachers loved them! http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Friendship-Soup-Mix-in-a-Jar/Detail.aspx

Here's one I pulled out of my file box for my daughter today (from when I used to be a room mother.) She wanted some ideas for my grandson to give the teachers and bus drivers. Most all of the stuff you can get at a dollar store, and it comes out really cute. Buy a nice mug and inside of it you put 1 pkg of hot chocolate mix, 3 or 4 Hersheys kisses (or hugs), 10 mini marshmallows and a peppermint stick. Then on the computer make a little decorated tag to go on it with the poem: Snowman Soup Was told you've been real good this year, always glad to hear it, With freezing weather drawing near You'll need to warm the spirit. So here's a little snowman soup complete with stirring stick, Add hot water, sip it slow, It's sure to do the trick!
