Research research research. Arm yourself with facts and numbers, have sources ready to back them up. Learn what your aponents typical arguments may be and have responses to them ready to bring up. Be polite, assertive and try to sound authoritative, confident and informed. Avoid emotion and stick to facts. Hope that helps.

The topic is very interesting. My suggestions to improve debate skills are: 1. You should try to understand oponent's mind and thinking capability very well before starting the debate. 2. Be calm and listen well when your oponent speaks. 3. Take few seconds to think after he/she stops talk. 4. Always try to make your oponent think, which means your words should be knife's sharp and relevent to the suject. 5. Do not deviate from the subject at any cost at any point of time during the debate till you win. 6. Also do not let your oponent deviate from the subject. 7. Be confident and say yourself that you are very much aware of the topic eventhough you are less aware, this would give you confidence. I hope this woould help you. Thank you
