A Phrase you always say?

Do you have a phrase you say a lot in conversation? When I was younger I always used the word "like" in conversation when it wasn't needed such as "I was like, going to the shops like..." now I've realised I've got stuck on saying the phrase "do you know what I mean?" to try and clarify what I'm saying. Unfortunately my friends point it out now and it's started to annoy me that I keep saying it! Do you have anything you always say in conversation?

I have habit of saying "I know right?" I don't know where it came from or why. But when i'm talking to people and they are talking and I'll just be like "I know right!" lol. It's weird, I don't know why or what made me start saying it.

My daughter (15) says "like" alot. I got so annoyed one day (probably because she was chattering on endlessly so I had to hear it constantly) that I decided to smack her on the thigh everytime she used the word "like" out of context. We were driving back from her soccer game that was an hour away from home. She chatted on for the whole hour and I kept smacking her bare leg. She is 15 and tough and found it funny, even when we reached our destination and she got out and looked at how red her leg was. What's funnier is that I caught myself using the word out of context a couple of times during that ride. Also using the word "GOES" instead of "said" is said an awful lot and drives me crazy. Personally, I don't think I use a certain word or phrase frequently. Maybe if you ask my kids you will find a different response. Before the new season of Grey's Anatomy they were showing a commercial where several characters kept saying "Seriously?" over and over again. I have started doing that. I think that is funny. Just asked my daughter (12) if there is one word that I say a lot and she said, "No". She didn't mean that there wasn't a word that I say a lot; she meant that "No" is the word I say a lot. ROFL!!!

I used to have a GF who said "like" a lot. Then she would catch her self and say "No, it's not "like" a baby, it IS a baby" Or whatever she was talking about. I can't think of any catch phrases I am currently using but When I was a kid (like 12) we always said that something cool was "bomb" and something Really cool was "Bomb-o".

I think I always say "you know" and "ultimately" more often. I also use the collective "we" everytime I am at work. These are some word fillers that I have since these don't add value and meaning to the statements that I am uttering. Good day!

I used to say you know quite a bit, until my Dad made me resay every sentence when I used it because he was so fed up of me saying it!

I have to admit that a lot of times in my life I have had a few phrases but the "do you know what I mean?" probably ranks the highest. I have heard this saying from a lot of people during my life. As a matter of fact I think there was a point in time where I have said it too much and may have annoyed certain people. I try not to use the phrase too much anymore but it has been a habit of mine for well over twenty or more years it is not easy to stop. I think that "you know what I mean?" is a very prolific question in my opinion. Take care beki.

Thanks for your reply, I do try to stop using a phrase if I think I'm over using it but sometimes it ends up in me using it more!

A phrase that I always say when I have nothing to say for example is oh well! or oh dear! I guess you've heard that a lot. They say that people say this when they become tongue tied, when they have nothing to say. It fills the gap I guess until the next person responds. My friends made a joke about this. I guess it is kind of funny when you keep saying it over and over. Andrew

I used to say "Uh" before every sentence when I was little. When a teacher called on me for an answer, I would say "Uh,B?" or whatever the answer was. I see a lot of people with that habit. "Uh" goes by so fast that some people don't really notice.

"You know" should stop creeping in my sentences as well. Anyway, I thought about this and I have to admit that I say "That's a no-no." or just plain "No, no, no, NO!" quite a lot these days since I have a little daredevil of a two-year-old, and I really shouldn't (say "No" that much). I want to use more positive reinforcement (calmly delivered), but when I'm in the moment, it's hard to stop myself from letting out a stream of Nos.

I always say the word "man" in almost every sentence. I start off a conversation with a "Hey man" or a "wat up, man?". I also say it to everyone, my manager, professors and even parents. I don't know when I started using it but a few of my friends mimic me whenever we have long conversations and "man" ends in every other sentence.
