How do you get the smell out of something?

I bought a used treadmill from a lady my daughter works with. I didn't know her husband smoked. When I got the treadmill home, it spelled like stale cigarette smoke and now it makes my house smell like it. We don't smoke and I don't like the odor. What can I clean it with to get the smell out of it? I wiped it off with some lysol disinfecting wipes but that didn't help. I wish people would realize that their smoking makes things stink

Hi ya lilcee I agree with cheapcindy definately use baking soda. When my kids threw up in the car it really stank so I used baking soda and it really works. I also used it when my youngest was potty training and weed everywhere where there was carpet! It worked to remove that smell too. Once you get rid of the smell you can then start to use things to make nice smell like air freshners etc! Good luck!

I would actually mix the baking soda with some really hot water and then wash it all over, I don't think you will achieve much by sprinkling it on - sorry!!

Thank you. I'm using baking soda right now. I sprinkled it on the part that you walk on. I hope it works. If I knew it would smell like this and all, I wouldn't have gotten it. That bugs me

I have no idea how to get the smell out of the treadmill. I suggest you let it sit outside for a while in the fresh air and see if that will help.

Thank you for your reply. I've tried everything so far, vinegar, baking soda, air out in sun. It doesn't smell quite as bad but there is still some odor. Hopefully it will go away in time.

Maybe if you wipe it over with vinegar in water but make the vinegar quite strong, might work, I am a firm believer in vinegar for most things, good luck I hope it works for you...

Eurgh Smoke is the worst smell to get out of anything! The problem is it will be in the other furniture in your room now. What I siggest is airing the room out everyday and maybe buying some febreeze or some kind of odour-eater to spray the room with every day. It will probably take a while for the smell to go but that's the best I can suggest I'm afraid!

Thanks, I'll give it a try. We have the treadmill setting outside airing out right now. Wish I knew it smelled like that, I probably wouldn't have gotten it.

Pot poriorr, or how about those air freshers you can put on fabric. I do hope you find something, it must be an awful smeel, we don't smoke in our house and I can feel for you as to how you are feeling and how your house smells.
