If the task is to simplify the expression, do the following: Remove the brackets by multiplication. y(y+4)-y(y-3)-9y = y²+4y-y²+3y-9y Collect and evaluate terms of the same order. The terms in y² cancel out and the expression reduces to -2y y²+4y-y²+3y-9y = 7y-9y = -2y
