have you had to give up caffeine late at night?

I used to drink caffeinated sodas all day, non stop, even right before bed. Then I gave them up and switched to a caffeine free brand. I went a month or so with no caffeine at all, then I started drinking cappuccino in the morning. Sometimes I will crave cappuccino all day, but I try not to give in later in the day.
A couple days ago I really needed a hot drink, so had a cappuccino at about 4 in the afternoon, then I couldn't sleep all night. I'm craving another cappuccino right now, but it's 7pm. Gosh if I had one now, I wouldn't feel tired until it was time to wake up.
Do you avoid caffeine later in the day, or do you not notice it having an effect on you?

I drink caffeine all day but I have trouble sleeping. I don't know if it's from what I drink or not but I should try cutting down to find out. I've been thinking of doing it anyway so I'll take this post as a sign and start doing it. Maybe I'll stop drinking it after 4 pm and see what happens then gradually move the time earlier and earlier. Thanks for the "sign"

I used to have a horrible time falling asleep, and never slept well, but at the time I'd swear on my life that caffeine had no effect on me. Then I decided to quit all together one day, and I was so exhausted. I could sleep around the clock if you let me. I was off caffeine for a month or so before I started drinking it again. Now I definitly notice an energy boost when I have caffeine. I am less tired, more energetic, and a lot more patient with the kids when I have a little caffeine in my system. But I also start to get really tired later at night, and that's when I crave more caffeine. As long as I don't have any, I can fall asleep as early as 9pm.
I used to stay up pretty late when I drank caffeine, midnight was early for me. Even then I'd lie in bed for awhile before sleep hit.
Now, 10pm is an average bedtime, any later is "late" and I fall asleep quickly.

Then I definately need to try it. I think part of my problem is the baby too though but it can't hurt to try cutting back. I still have trouble sleeping even if she is asleep.

For myself I think caffeine in the morning suits me best. In the last 8 years or so I was diagnosed with anxiety and from the when I drink anything with caffeine in it during the evenings or late afternoon, I get strange flutters in my heart and they scare me. I was never much of a hot drink kind of gal up until the last five years or so.
As of now my panic/anxiety attacks are subsided so it's fine.
Have a great day

Yes I guess building up a tolerance would work. As of now, I can only handle 1-2 cups a coffee then I start feeling a jittery type of feeling from it, then I have to eat something to calm that hyperness down a bit.
In the last week or so I've been only consuming that amount so it's not too bad. I do envy people that can handle more though.
I work a lot of nightshifts with a few regular co-workers and once this girl bought me a RockStar energy drink and wow after I drank that I felt like I drank about 10 pots of coffee. Felt like I was on speed or something lol. I wasn't much of a fan of that feeling though. I did although learn my lesson and never tried it again.

I used to feel that way whenever I drank an energy drink, and i feel that way after about my 3rd cup of cappuccino. I think my body just can't handle a certain amount of caffeine. After a little while it goes away though.

Caffeine just never has had an effect on me. I like to drink cappuccinos but i don't have them often. i don't know if you have Sheetz gas stations up there but they have the best cappuccinos i have ever had. i don't drink much soda but i don't notice it having an effect on me too. my husband drinks coffee sometimes in the evenings before bed and it doesn't effect him either. he'll still pass out as soon as his head hits the pillow.

Never heard of Sheetz, but I doubt they can top Tim Horton's, lol. I usually buy instant cappuccino and make it at home, $2 a can lasts me a whole week, can't beat that.

I was never a big caffeine drinker to the wee hours. I'd have coffee or a soda in the morning. I've cut way back while pregnant. If I drink anything after say 3 or 4 pm, I'd have trouble sleeping. For me it just isn't worth less sleep than I already get.

Being pregnant you need to watch your caffeine intake anyways. Although I didn't for most of my pregnancies. I am a horrible soda drinker and wouldn't give it up for any of my pregnancies except the twins. For them I switched to a non caffeinated soda. Still too much sugar, but I had also quit smoking for them too.
My doctors got on me about my sugar intake for them, but I told them what I'd given up and said take your pick... would you rather I smoke and have caffeine or would you rather I have too much sugar, cuz I'm not giving anything else up!

I have never been bothered with caffeine keeping me awake. I could drink a pot of coffee before going to bed and the only way it would bother me is to burn my esophagus. I gave up coffee over 1 1/2 years ago and only miss it when I go to eat a piece of pie or cake. I can drink a coke late and it doesn't bother me. We drink lots of tea, but we use decaf for that, so it's no problem. We do drink hot chocolate late at night in the winter, but it's never bothered me, either.

I never thought it bothered me either, until I gave it up. I've definitly noticed a difference in my sleep when I don't have caffeine later in the day.

I've drank coffee all my life and never had any sleep problems, and still don't. But I started having this burning feeling in my throat when I'd drink coffee. So I just decided I could do without it and laid it down. Haven't had a cup of coffee in over 1 1/2 years. And it's nice not to be bothered anymore.

Caffeine has little to no effect on me except keep me from getting headaches. It is almost 10pm here and I am sitting here with a Diet Dew. I fall asleep without much trouble most nights. On the nights I do have trouble falling asleep I don't think it is the caffeine.

I think perhaps when we are used to a large intake, our bodies are used to it so manage to work around it. But that also means that it doesn't have the affect on us that we'd like it to at particular times, like waking us up in the morning.

I have never had this problem with caffeine at all it does not affect me no matter what time I drink it. It might be different though now that I have quit smoking as I have cut down on the amount of caffeine I drink so I may start having problems sleeping through lack of it!

I don't deliberately avoid caffeinated drinks in the afternoons and evenings, and I don't particularly notice it having an effect on me. It depends what your body is used to though I suppose, and if I gave it up for a while and then drank one I bet I'd notice then.

I try not to drink anything with caffeine in it at night. Found out when I did, it took me forever to go to sleep. I occasionaly go to Tim Horton's to get an iced cappacino and I am wired for the whole day.

I love Tim Horton's Ice Capps, have you tried the brownie one? That is my favorite. What keeps me wired all day is Monster energy drinks. I like the java flavors.

I guess there was a time it didn't bother me, although I had trouble falling asleep and didn't sleep very deeply, I did get sleep. Now if I have caffeine that late I just lie in bed awake for hours.

I was like that when I first laid off the caffeine as well. It slowly got better. Now I'm okay during the day, but I do seem to need to go to bed earlier at night.

I try to lay off the caffeine in the evenings, but it does not effect me either way. Caffeine does not keep me up. I even try caffeine pills. I drink coffee in the morning. Warm drinks make me drowsy. I could sleep fine with or without caffeine, but I try not to drink a lot.

I used to think I could sleep fine, but now I notice I've been sleeping so much better ever since I laid off the caffeine. I fall asleep quicker and sleep deeper at night.

I drink coffee a couple times a day. The caffeine doesn't seem to bother me. After dinner I have a coffee and sometimes before I finish the cup I nod off for about 20 minutes. Perhaps it has the opposite effect on me.

No, caffeine doesn't really affect me that much. I don't know why. What keeps me up is food and a lot of sugar. Like when I'm pulling an all-nighter, I get sleepy and just not as productive, so I energize my moving around AND eating chocolates or other sweet food. This is why I get fat when I'm stressed out. :(

I noticed it like 3 years ago that I have to cut down caffeine intake before 5 pm or else i wouldnt sleep well at night. My eyes would be very tired but wouldnt have the chance to close it and my heart beat would be very fast. When I was a little younger caffeine doesnt have any effect on me. I would often laugh about it when my sister tells me that. But now not anymore. I hope it doesnt go with the age . LOL
