Okay, you guys know I have too many cats. Some have unusual names, but here's a list from Dr. Jon's newsletter of not so common names. Here is Dr. Jon's website http://www.petplace.com/.
"For some, the pet name trend is more toward the unusual - or just plain bizarre. After years of tracking the most popular names for pets, Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI), set out to find the most unusual cat names from among its more than 465,000 pets insured nationwide. "
Here are the 10 most unusual cat names:
1. Edward Scissorpaws
2. Sir Lix-a-lot
3. Optimus Prrrime
4. Buddah Pest
5. Snoop Kitty Kitty
6. Miss Fuzzbutt
7. 80 Bucks
8. Sparklemonkey
9. Rosie Posie Prozac
10. Toot Uncommon
I like that Toot Uncommon! also Snoop Kitty Kitty!
The problem with these names are they are so long, what do they call Snoop? Kitty is my guess... or Edward Scissorpaws - probably Eddie.
I go for mostly single names and the ones that are long, probably came with the cat and not bestowed by me. Well, Shooting Star was mine, but we've always called her just Star.
So, what do you think of these names? What and why did you name your pet? and do you shorten it? I can tell you that we don't call Oliver "Ollie" mostly we call him "Ol-li-var." Scamp is often called "Sca-ack-ack-ack-amp" well, he does have a "Siamese" accent and puts the "acks" in his own sounds and responds well to them.

I have three cats, two with normal names, and one with the name "Freeway." Before I tell why we named him that, I have to tell you this story. My brother and I were in elementary school, playing on the playground. My mom was in the car, waiting for school to end, when suddenly she sees a cat fly out of a car that was moving and landed on the parking lot. My mom noticed he was injured, so she grabbed him and cleaned him up and took him home. As we tried to figure out a name, my mom was talking about a freeway, and decided, "Hey! Let's call him Freeway! He was 'free' and he 'found his way home'!" So, his name is Freeway. What's so sad is the fact that Freeway has a serious gum disease due to that injury as a kitten, so we have to take extra good care of him.

The picture you see is my cat. Her name is Katwah. Kat for short. My sister's cat's name is Catzilla. Kat doesn't answer to her name. If I say "bug" then she comes running. If she hears a can being opened she'll be there with extended paws. She used to eat dry cat food until recently I've been giving her canned food. Now she's addicted to can cat food. "Kat, stop scratching the wall! Kat, stop scratching the furniture! Kat, get off the table! Kaaaat, stop biting me!"

no paws? or no claws? And I've got a few minxs, but no manxs...
I like Siameses, I only have 3 with the markings, but I've got a LOT of them with the voices and behaviors.
Spotnose sounds like something a kid would name an animal - and I like Spotno!

Those are some interesting names, your kitty's names included.
I don't have cats now but, I have had 3 or 4. The first one was Any Face. I don't know why I called her that, it just seemed like the thing to call her at the time.
Then there was this solid black kitten that crawled out from under the engine of our car, his name was Panther. Then, there was Sam, a mixed breed kitty with Siamese markings. He was called Sam because the kids named him before we even got him. They decided to give it a name that could be for a boy or a girl cat. The last one we had was Boots, because she had black "boots" on all four legs and feet.

With ALL my furbabies, I wait until I meet them to name them. My last 2 kittens came from the Humane Society. They were both named. One Romeo & the other Phillip. I planned on changing both their names. I get home & am playing with them when I realized why Romeo was named Romeo. He kept running over & kissing me. Plus he turned around to walk off & hiked his tail. The fur around his little butt was shaped like a heart. So he remained Romeo. Then I had my other little boy to name. Not sure why but I just couldn't call him Phillip. So I set out to think of names. When a name popped in my head, I'd say it. He ignored me. Suddenly the name Kip popped into my head & when I said it he looked up at me like that's it. From that second on he responded to Kip. So, now I have Romeo & Kip. Below is my list of furbabies. 1-7 were my cats, 8-16 were my dogs...
1. Little Orphan Annie aka Annie
2. D.J. aka Deej
3. Little Bit aka wittlebit
4. Maxwell aka Max
5. Squeaks (she squeaked instead of meowing)
6. Lucki (cuz he was)
7. Smoki (already named)
8. Toto
9. Rebel
10. Tucker
11. Jake
12. Taylor
13. Tobi
14. Trixi
15. Tommi
16. Penni

We named Oliver because he was an orphan. Ping is a kisser and a nose butt-er, well, I called it a nose breaker when he was younger because he would butt too hard!
And names coming to you happened to me. We had been given a rescued cat and were calling her Princess but were trying to find something that fit better (tho she was beautiful.) One day on the way home the name Chelsey popped into my head and when I came into the house I called the name and she jumped off her perch and ran to me.
Then there was ugly Bawb - so ugly we weren't even sure if he was going to survive, he was so starved his hair was falling out! Bawb is said like a long belch...

they are too long. who would want to call their pet with a name that long? humans dont even use long names for themselves. i would nickname each one to something shorter.
eddie, sir, opti, buddah, snoopy, missy, eighty, sparky, rosie, tootie.
my current cat had a first name when i adopted him--gumby, and i just added a middle name--d'arcy. my 2 goldfish are curry and paprika

gumby. he is 8. i dont want to confuse him by changing his name.
tootie sounds like a good name for a pet. better for a pet than that character on Facts of Life young actress, Kim Fields.
another cool pet name is Roxie or Trixie

I have to say, not names I would have chosen. Then again, the fact that my parents named all pets with S names really didn't appeal to me either. I try to name them keeping their personality in mind. Seems that if I just name them something appealing to me it backfires. For example, I have a german shepard that we adopted, she was dumped at work, that I named Harmony. We all need harmony in our lives, right? Well, I have read the definition to her several times and she still doesn't get it. Lol. And then there is Zen, trust me, I've thought of naming pets with not so nice names to see if the opposite happens.

I do my best to fit the names to the pets myself. Granted, if I think a the animal will be adopted, I might give a "throw away" name.
I also have been doing "series" names. For example, I named a Siamese marked kitten for my Chinese co-worker. Since she was Chinese, I named the kitten's brothers, Ping and Pong. Well, we've kept those brothers and EVERYBODY loves their names!
Or we named Rygel that because from behind he looked a little like the alien by that name on Farscape. Since it is said the same as the star, we named his 3 siblings after steller objects, Sirius, Orion and Andromeda.
Now, when we got Roxy, she was named Rockstar - try calling that.... We changed it right away to Rocky. She came with her 2 kittens, a boy and girl, unnamed. We named them Boris and Natasha, after the villins in the cartoons. Well, Boris was a total sweet heart, but Natasha was a terrorist! She drove her brother so crazy he started hiding in my room. We were once again glad we had kept Rygel, because he was just the same when he was a kitten. He played with her and then, when he was tired, she'd go bother all the other cats, and by the time Rygel was ready, she's had annoyed all the other cats and could play with her happy playmate again!
A further story on Natasha (oh, both kept their names BTY) was the lady that had adopted her, had to put all her nicknacks up and lock the darling up when she left the house because she was destroying her stuff!

I rather like Optimus Prrrrime. I LOVE Buddah Pest!!!
But, I don't think I've had any overly strange names, but I guess you could say some of the names I've used were less common for cats. I'll list the names I remember.
As a kid: Midnight, Blackie, Blackie Midnight (I was creative, wasn't I?), Pygmy (found abandoned, eyes still closed - Mom nursed him with an eye dropper), Russell (gray with some white)
Adolescence/teenager: Rikki, Siam Tai Kili (pure Siamese, I called him Taiger, Mom called him Simon - it stuck), Sam (Mom's yellow tiger cat)
Adulthood: Heber & Sheba (all black siblings, a boy and a girl), Tinker (snowshoe Siamese), Russell Too (gray with some white), Sheba (a tortoiseshell), Chelsea (a Siamese shelter rescue), Fred & Sanford (all black adult cats), Cotton (all white), Henry (my son's orange tabby), Shadow (Russian Blue), Johnny (tuxedo - Shadow's brother), Shady (Russian Blue, Shadow & Johnny's mother), Character (a black with brown tabby of my daughter), Pepper (a part Siamese with faded tabby-point markings), Chloe (Pepper's daughter)

I like Optimus Purrrime too, and Buddah Pest. Reminds me of the story of one of my friends told me at the party on Saturday. She was talking about a neighbor's cat, she calls him "that Buddah cat" because he was adopted by her neighbor because he was down at the Buddist temple, and going in and spraying the statue. And those people didn't want to take him to the kill shelter so they asked for someone to adopt him.
heck, just taking him to the vet for a fix might've also helped...

I just read your other responses - I guess the cat got #5's tongue, huh?
Also I remembered one more - I had a cat named Alfree in high school - there was a guy in school named Alfree Heston and I just thought it was the coolest name, so I named the cat that, too.

Two of my Rainbow Angels had unusual names. They came to me from a young couple who were moving to England and couldn't take them. The cat daddy was a golf pro, and he named the cats. The orange boy who became my soulmate was Divot; the gray tabby girl was Baffy. A baff is a term for an obsolete golf club shaped like a slotted spoon and used to scoop the golf balls out of the carriage ruts.
Now we have Josie and Paisley who are calicoes; Arthur, a white blue-eyed Turkish Angora and Peaches, a champaign tabby.
