People have different and sometimes unique ways of doing things in entertaining themselves when they find themselves in the shelf of boredom. Others find it more relaxing to go to malls and does window shopping, some burries their noses in the computer while many sort into just sleeping.....and the lists can go on.
What should be the best thing to do when you find yourself doing nothing? Are there more productive stuff one can do to benifit from "spare times"?

Most people have a busy and stress filled life, and very often they put off for a rainy day certain things they cannot find time to do ,every day.........So when you have time to spare and nothing to do,you can try to go through the things that you had put off for a later date, and you will surely find some long forgotten jobs to do.It may be visitng some long lost relative or friend,or ringing up distant relatives or friends,or doing some repair work in the house,or even cleaning up your cupboards or even going to the bank to get your acount books avrified and updated..The list is endless,if you really apply your mind to make yoru spare time productive............

Yes that's true.....actually there could be no "spare time" if one would always find something to do. Like you said, there's really a lot of things to do if you apply your mind to make spare time productive. And doing those left undone stuff would be great....so there won't be back logs anymore.

I have three things, at the minimum, that I do whenever I have "nothing" to do. First, I do workouts. I spend at least forty five minutes (45 minutes) doing simple workouts/exercises to squeeze the fats away from my body. I usually do push-ups and sit-ups at home. Second, I read books. From spy novels to inspirational books to self-help books. Since I have "nothing" to do, I believe it is much better to learn than not learn anything new. With this I get to improve my knowledge on things, I get to explore different stories. Lastly, I surf the net and try to find earning opportunities online. I found myLot and here, I learn and i earn. I also get to stay connected with my friends who are now in far away places.
I guess, there is really no unproductive time for people to spend. We can always find ways to spend our time wisely. Like what we are doing right now, right?

I guess so, there is no really unproductive time if one finds to have spent his/her time wisely. I tjhink you don't have boredom w/ what you were citing in your spare times.....those are great activities and both rewarding.

I have lots of chores to do since I'm a stay_at-home mom. And if I do have a very spare time, I spend it on reading my favorite romance books. It's my most pleasurable relaxation time by lying down and have fun reading.
As for the productive stuff, I spend some of my spare time tending to my flowers. I'm not really that a professional gardener. Because I'm not even familiar with some of the plants in my garden. But even as an amateur gardener, it makes me proud to see my garden bloom with my favorite flowers, that I myself planted and nurtured.

I understand being a mom is noot an easy thing....I can imagine the movemetns you will be doing from time to time just alone in the house.....much moreso if you are a working one. Am sure you don't hardly have such thing as "spare time".
But it's a nice thing to still find yourself making some gardening works....its so fulfilling to see your plants grow and blossomed, you surely be delighted in the sights of the bloomin flowers. Keep it up....happy gardening!

There is no such thing as having nothing to do. When people say they are bored and say they have nothing to do I'm shocked. Everyday I wake up I am overwhelmed by the amount of stuff that I can do. The possibilities are endless and the true question is there's so much stuff to do how can I choose just one?

Yap...that might be the real question for super busy people like you....."How can I choose just one thing to do?". That sounds different but true. Like I said there are a lot of different ways to fill up the spare time and each has unique answers.
In your case this might not be applicable since you cannot seem to have even time for "spare times". But I agree w/ you, there are always things to do regardless how bored you are. Some may not find it relaxing but others are.

What I usually do when I have nothing to do is basically find something to do! I dont really like boredom so I try to find ways to make myself busy, unless I really want to rest and relax for that moment. But when I don't have anything to do, I usually pick up a book that has long been in my cabinet and start reading it. I have a lot of books kept in my cabinet and even in my drawer that are unopened. I have not find time reading them so I guess the next time that I don't have anything to do, I'll just look in my cabinetand my drawer for the books. Then the task starts there because I would have to choose what book to read. Reading the books synopsis is something I can do already.

Its indeed the best thing to do.....to find something to do! And yes reading is a very productive thing to do when boredom attacks. Aside from keeping one busy in reading, it also allows one to learn more. No time wasted in reading.

hahahaha!! good question. I definitely agree that people have different ways to ease their boredom. I've found myself doing the things on your list except sleeping. I don't like to sleep when I am bored. hahaha.
I tell what? the best thing to do on your spare time is post discussion here in mylot and respond to discussions and you will enjoy and forget your boredom. You will learn many things here and you will earn while enjoying. This is a productive way of using your spare time than watching TV shows where you can not earn a cent.

Yes I can see that Bebs......I guess you spend mostly of your time (not just your spare times) here in mylot lol! And its a good thing doing that because by now you also had got me to be hooked in here..........hahahaha.
But in my case, if I have the choice I would like to spend more of my spare time in shopping or just window shopping. Honestly I have no problem wading myself for 5 hrs or more in a mall or department store....my husband was so amazed when he left me in the mall for almost half day when he was at work and I told him to bring me there while he was away.

I really have alot of spare time because i am a university student and apert from going to the university i dont do much. SO usually i sit in front of computer surfing internet and mostly mylotting, try finding out ways to earn more on internet, and also i spend alot of time on writing reviews on CIAO. And if i am board doing all this i go to the malls have a good dinner and then back on internet. I dont have my parents here nor any siblings becuase i am in a foreign country for my studies. But seriously i feel i could do a job to satisfy my needs and pass some time out. Its actually not allowed for students here to work. SO have to waste alot of time.

Nothing! (just kidding) I mean I better listen to the radio any station, reading books, going out with friends or dating with my husband all things that can make myself relax. But the best is going to a prayer meeting of the elders in the church if there is any invitations. And one more I practice the songs of praise and worship.
Then the last is here in the front of my computer.

Oh I guess we have similar interests in tv channels, I am also fond of the discovery and geogrsaphic channels specially if they featured jungle animals in africa. I also liked it when they featured whales and crocodiles.....and other exotic animals.

depends on the person. i think it might be unhealthy to stay on the internet for very long hours. i'm very unhealthy i usually surf the net for 6 or more hours a day. instead i think people should go out and social and meet new people or do some activities like scuba diving, hiking, rock climb. Something adventurous so there would be stories to tell and memories to cherish.
@silverjam (969)

That's something very unique to hear....."stories to tell and memories to cherish". But do you think scuba diving and rock climbing are just easy activities to just merely be done when you have nothing to do?....lol! I guess it takes more preparation nd probably takes more time. That must be something planned. But yes I agree, staying infront of the computer for a very long time is not healthy specially for the eyes........specially if the computer has no eye care devise.

When I feel bored and there's nothing I can do, I just go to my bed and take a nap especially when I'm at home.. But if I'm outside home like in school, I just go to any computer cafe and start surfing net or sometimes play online games.. These will help me to entertain my self.. I don't usually go to mall or go for shopping since I hate going to the mall alone and doing nothing.. The more I got bored and just feel tired.. Most of the time, I just stay at home and watched movies, go to sleep, or play computer games..

Hi ,
Since most days my fiance has the car I will stay in and find something to do . I like to read and write and chat with friends . sometimes a movie on lifetime or a walk with the dog . During the summer all i do is swim and love it and take night walks .

I love walking too.....but I just can't becaue am quite new to the place where I am now and my husband doesn't like to walk. I like swimming as well but there's no ocean here unlike there in the Philippines where we live near the shore. I cannot also go shopping in which I love to do most because I don't drive and I have no car. So all I can do is watching tv and chatting and recently here in mylot.

I usually check my emails, or just read a magazine and chill out the whole afternoon. Or i'll get a nap. Sometimes i re orgnanize my things or my room. Throw away the stuff that are not useful. sometimes i call my friends up and we go to different museums. to learn some of the artifacts that are displayed and of course to know the history of some places.

Oh that's nice....I guess not very many people would take time to go to museums and browse articrafts and be curious to know different histories. Reorganizing rooms are also good because that's for sure won't make you sleepy because am sure it involves cleaning up.

When boredom attack, I usually read books, reading books and magazines rescue me from weariness and boredom, it gives me peace of mind and contentment. Sometimes I go to the nearest national bookstore branch and read books there (lol!), after some reading I am back to my good shape again. Then I visit mandarin tea garden for some refreshment. When there's no interesting book available in my surrounding, I make grocery shopping, another "cure" for boredom, I don't usually feel clothes shopping when I am at the lowest point in my life, grocery items are the best and I will buy foods sometimes beyond my limit.
When I am lonely and despondent, I will buy several cartoons of cornflakes and yogurt and eat them until depression and anxieties vanished. Other people find this ridiculous and stupid, my close friends even find this very strange but I loved it. Eating bowls of cornflakes with fruits picks up my self-esteem, I don't know, but I felt huge of contentment after eating cornflakes.

I guess I have the same habit w/ you when I was still studying or even when I was working at some time...."eating". I do that not only when am bored but also when I have unsolved homeworks.....instead of going to the library before, I'd rather go to the canteen and have hotcakes and halohalo. Eating for me is where I can vent my boredom and it also like some relaxation for me.
But now I wanna go to malls for shopping or just window shopping. I like to be just walking around the store and browsing products. Recently I got hooked up here in mylot.
