Social Networking Sites...deception

Have you ever met someone thru a social networking site; communicated for a while and then decided to meet in person? How did it go? Did they look like their picture? Did they live up to their online persona?
I recently went on a date with a man after talking with him for a while online and by phone. When we finally met up for a date, he looked only vaguely reminiscent of his online photo. The photo must have been taken at least 5 -10 years earlier. We had a nice date but I really felt like that was the same as lying. Posting a picture of yourself that looks nothing like you do currently is a form a deception. I probably would have went out with him had he had a current picture of himself online. Since it wasn't current, even though we had a nice time, I kept thinking in the back of my mind "Your a liar and what else are you lying about".
Do you have a story? I'd love to hear it.

I did talk to a guy once and his pics were nice. He looked young and attractive. So we decided to meet. He looked nothing like the pics. He looked older. Less attractive. I am not shallow but i believe that what he did was shallow.

That's how I felt. We all age, so I'm not so shallow that I can't see past receding hairlines, a little excess weight, wrinkles, etc. But I would rather know ahead of time than be surprised. Hiding your appearance makes you shallow not me. Plus, I've always heard guys complain that women do this, but I'm finding out they are just as guilty.

No, i don't deal with that kind of relationships online..they can deceive people. at least they were nice enough to meet you even though you were kinda fooled with the picture..i mean, you could have told him about it, right?
well, that's nothing compare what am gonna tell you..this girl had been constantly communicating this guy, in which she became his bf online. but when they met, it was disaster. the guy was a complete fake and turn out to be a psychotic rapist..
I don't know if He was capture, though. Now that..is Deception

No, I have never actually met anyone that I have socialized on line with. I am married though, so I wouldn't meet a man anyways. I do have a couple of friends though that I talk to outside of the sites that I met on the sites. I mean I have not actually talked to them on the phone but we email back and forth, and check in with each other from time to time, and help each other out on different sites and stuff. If any of us are ever visiting the area of the other we will be sure to meet for lunch or dinner or something. But we have been in contact with each other for a very long time on line, so I would feel good about that and would love to meet them. I am pretty sure though that they are honest.
