My brother told me 2 days ago that he got fired from his job. He just bought a house and it is right before the holidays. What a great time for it to happen. He had just gotten a raise too. Have you or any family members lost a job recently? Is it making the holidays more difficult for you?

Both my sister and months lost their jobs about 4 months ago. Sister is still looking. Mom recently found a substitute teaching position. Roomate lost his job Nov.6. This was right before he was to move out. Needless to say he is still here.

My Uncle just lost his job not due to being fired but from a lay off. It is so sad right here at the holidays. I am a firm believer in where one door closes another one opens though so tell your bother to keep his chin up. Something will come along.

My husband has been told he will be demoted in the middle of next month. Sadly, this is actually going to work to our benefit. Maybe not financially, but personally. Due to his demotion he will have to change stores. He'll be going to the store that is 15 minutes away from us, where as his current store is more than half hour away. Also the demotion means less hours. Right now he is salary, and usually puts in more than 50 hours, average is around 55. With the demotion he'll be hourly and will not be allowed to work over 50 hours. So this means he'll be home more often, which is great for us. His pay is only going down by $2,000 a year, so that is not too awful, and with the demotion he'll be more likely to hit his bonuses, which he currently is not doing. So with the save in gas and the bonuses, it will probably work out the same. But they told him regardless when this move takes place, he will remain at his current pay rate until the 1st of January.

I actually lost my job five months ago. Now with so many people out of work, finding a job is not easy, it's actually a job in itself. So sorry to hear that your brother lost his job. Same with me, I was hoping I could find another job, but was laid off before I was able to find one. I know he must be freaking out with the purchase of a new home and no job now. Hopefully he can find something soon. I am not stressing so much, because I can only do what I can do. When the bill collectors call, I tell them, straight up that I do not have the money, and as soon as I get some, I will resume paying on the bills. I am not really concerned with the holidays, I have to look at them as another day. Knowing what my situation is, there is no way I can buy gifts or go the extra mile for celebrations. If I only have a hot dog to eat, I will be thankful for that. I wish your brother luck, and hope he will find another job soon.

I feel for you and your family and I know exactly where you are coming from. I lost my job due to an injury. It kept me from working for about four months. I decided then and there that it would never happen to me again. I took it as an opportunity to start my own business. Best thing I ever did. I here so many stories about people losing there jobs in this lousy economy and I think that if you have the will there is a way to make it all better and to become recession proof. Trust me when I say that the people that are not worried about the economy are the ones who are holding all the cards and making all the decisions. Good luck, I hope you and your family have a wonderful holidays despite your bad luck. Jay
