well Jk Rowling has the younger generation crowd hands down, but I think Dan Brown is getting those who like books that really make them think. Not all readers want a challenge when they read and go for fantasy books like Rowlings, but one reason I love Dan Brown is that I think and I like the codes and elements that he adds into the book.

I'm not sure what you mean by "convincing." If you mean generating a fan base, then I think J.K. Rowling does win. She was able to cross age demographics, thus getting more fans. Dan Brown, while immensely successful, seemed to attract the older readers. As for writing style, personally, I found Rowling's to be more engaging. More like a fairy-tale where you are immersed in a fantasy world. Her series took you someplace new and made you want to set up house there. Her characters were vivid and fun. They added a touch of whimsy to the darker themese she explored. That made her a unique find in the reading world. However, I have found Dan Brown to be a master of pacing. No matter where you are in the book, you want to read that next chapter. He quite literally keeps you at the edge of your seat. Because of that you want to enter is world and find out what happens next. It's not quite as engaging as the world of Hary Potter, but no less addictive. Since both are fiction authors (though Dan Brown is strongly influenced by reality), they don't really "convince" their readers of anything. For the most part their works are just entertainment. Dan Brown may have more influence over his readers because his works deal with real institutions and places. But, again, his work is that of fantasy (fiction) and not reality. He's telling us a story. So, I guess the answer to your questions is neither.

I think both have a different style of writing and are very much different from each other field of writing. Dan Brown has a very mature style of writing but that might not appeal to masses and people sometime can't visualize what they read, whereas Rowling has this special quality of generating the image of every paragraphs she writes in the reader's mind! But if I had to choose one of them then I'll certainly go for J.K.Rowling. I have read all the Haary Potter books and I must admit I found it much more interesting to read the books than to watch the movie. I have read Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown and I found him not being able to keep the reader glued to his writing at one or two places! So my vote goes to Rowling....
