Do You Call Others' Kids Darling etc?

I don't know when it happened but I realized just the other day that I was calling my son's friend "Sweetie." Apparently I am now old enough to do that since it was quite an acceptable term for this young man. He didn't flinch and neither did my son. I haven't used Darling yet, but I'm on the prowl. Just kidding. Do you tend to use these terms of endearment with your children's friends?

It's probably because you're a sweetie yourself.

Hi Gstragirl, Now and again I do find myself doing this, I usually say 'oh thats all right love, rather than darling or sweetie. Darling sometimes but sweetie is not an expression I have ever used. I am quite close to my daughters friends and a lot of them call me mum No2 so I suppose they don't mind at all. Huggles. Ellie :D

Nope, I do it to people I work with, though. That is, I do call my clients by endearing terms. They do the same with me, though and call me sweetie. I also get lots of hugs all the time.

Yes, whenever I call my niece I used to say sweetheart. When I am with my friends I call them Sis, short for Sister or mare.

I tend to use "honey" when talking to my kids friends or other children whom i'm around. sometimes sweetie too. It's easier than trying to remember there name especially in a large group. Although when i was younger i use to get perturb by strangers calling me honey or sweetie. i must be gettin old. lol

This is very true, it is easier than trying to remember their names. I guess we are getting older, but also wiser I hope.

I am a sunday school teacher. so it means I'm kind of known to almost all children of my church. and all of them are someone hold a special space in my heart. I call them all ..my love.. I dont have any baby yet, that is why i dont call them ... my child or anything that means a baby pet's name. I do love all my kids, they are all dear to me.

I don't have kids, but it would always drive me crazy as a kid if another adult did that to me. I just wanted to be treated like myself, and not be patronized because of my age. Whatever works for the people involved, as long as it works for all involved. In my case, I don't like receiving it, so I don't use it either.

I think I have done this before but not very often. I don't think the kids were comfortable with me doing that, is why.

LOL I am that old as well hehehe I actually do have a tendency to use it a lot with the kids at school, and also with some of my kids friends if I know them for a long time.

Yep...Honey, Sweetie and son to kids that aren't even mine. I don't know when it happened but it did. One day the "old" switch just turned on in my brain.

I use a lot of words of endearment to most kids. I work with kids and I use words like baby, sweetie, sweetie pie, and darling. I just find it cute to use words like that. I guess kids love to hear people calling them like that.

I think that's very wierd to call son's friend daring so something alike. I think that words are used to call someone who is very intimate with you. And parents often don't be very intimate with son's friends...
