Well I have been getting these terrible headaches that ran from my eyes around to my face. I could hardly see the TV with my glasses anymore. SO I went to the eye Dr today for an exam and new glasses. Now we all have heard the eyes get worse with age right? NOT!! MIne are getting better as far as seeing distances. Close up, my bifocals need changing badly. So I now have new glasses on order so I can see better and hopefully this will rid me of these head/eyc aches as well. Now they have a new machine called Optomap. It takes photos of the retina. One eye at a time and a bright green light shines then flashes. Painless and wuick. They usually do 2 photos of each eye. But I moved and had 3 of each done. A much better procedure than in the past. Previously the Dr could get a 320 degree view of the retina, now with this Optimap they get a 200 degree view seeing possible things like cancer of the eye, Glaucoma, Retinal detachment, Macular Degeneration and others earlier than before. SO have you been to the eye Dr lately? Are you eyes better or worse than before? Ever have this Optomap done?

I was just at the eye doctor less then a week ago. I've worn glasses and contacts since I was in the 3rd grade! I got there today to pick up my new set of contacts and felt sick when I realized how thick the folder they have on me is. I want laser eye surgery, but I'm a chicken! I had hard contacts before, but I was really to young to be dealing with them and I broke like six of them. Then I went to soft contacts, today I got a new pair of hard contacts. Aaaah, I'm kind of wishing soft wasn't so expensive because I think I would switch back. Miserable day in eye land for me.

Hi Grandpa Bob...I also been having a lot of headaches the last two weeks, but I think mine are sinus headaches. I been at the eye doctor this summer and he told me my eyes have not changed that much from 2 years ago. I do wear glasses only when I drive and watch tv.
I bet you cant wait untill you get your new glasses than you can watch tv and see whats going on.

I just went to the eye doc last week and I got new glasses. They don't have a machine like the Optomap, but I wish they did. I hate when they keep switching those lenses and asking which looks better. My eyelashes kept getting caught, and that didn't feel too good. I got my new glasses already, and they are really comfortable. I think I might get laser surgery someday so I won't have to wear glasses, but If do, I'll need reading glasses, and as it is now, I can read without glasses, I just need them to see far away.

Yeah those things get annoying.
But they need to do it to get just the right prescription for the lenses.
Must have told him 50 times, this one is clearer etc etc.

My eyes aren't this bad.
But I can't see my TV clearly from the couch.
And it hurt my head trying to focus to see it.

Hey grandpa bob! That is really interesting! I sure with my
eyes would get better! But everytime I go to get my eyes
checked they are much worse! I can't see close or far. I have
not had my eyes checked for awhile now so I am past due for
my eye exam. I really should be going because I think it's
been at least 2 years now. I will make an appointment and see
it I can get that Optimap test done too. It sounds great. Since
my vision has gotten progressively worse each time I go it
might be interesting to see what they find out this time.
I really need to make my appointment before the year ends. I
think I'll make the call tomorrow!

I hope your headaches/eye aches go away hon. Those are so painful. I've had the Optomap done before. I like it because there's no pain or puffs of air involved. LOL. I need to go to the eye doctor. It's past time for my yearly eye exam. The doc told me last year that he could pretty much guarantee that I would be wearing bifocals very soon, so I'm not too thrilled about going in this time. Plus he's going to be on me about not having my eye surgery done yet. But I already had one surgery this year....and one a year is enough for me thankyouverymuch. LOL

I have had my eyes checked this year and my eye sight is the same as last year. I only need glasses to read and use the computer, which again involves reading. I have never heard about the optomap ever and my first husband had glaucoma, retinal detachment and had all kinds of trouble. I have always believed the U.S. has much better technology and far more knowledgeable doctors. I'm glad you had some good news because eye sight is one of our most important senses. Here wher I live it cost us 85.00 for an eye exam, if you need anything further I don't know what that would cost. Because my frames were broken I needed new glasses and I just bought the cheapest because as I said I don't need to wear them every day and the total cost of the glasses was 465.00. The frames were 149.99 that was the cheapest then the rest was for the lense which includes progressive bi focal. Thank You my friend.

I have no idea the total cost.
My insurance was a $3 co-pay for the exam and a $25 co-pay for the glasses. So new glasses cost me $28 out of pocket money. Granted they are cheap glasses but for $28 I can manage. Not designer frames or unlined bifocals but still cheap enough for me to afford them anyhow.

Mine have also gotten better...after the last time I went I wore my glasses for a few days and one morning woke up to see the roses on the lamp next to my bed....I probably could have before but suddenly realized I could see them....so my eyesight closer is getting better....I have trifocals....it's hard to find the right spot sometimes though. Hope you get rid of your headaches!

I can't see the TV from my couch with mine on.
So I've been not wearing them as I should due to the headaches etc.
My wife has tri's as well.
Me, just bifocals for now.
Thanks also, I hope they go away once I get new glasses next week or so.

It has been a while, but I only needed glasses for night driving. Last time I went to renew my license and they did the vision test I passed with flying colors and the took the eyeglass restriction off of my glasses. So it seems as if my vision has improved, I see fine without any type of eye wear, at least for now, I am very grateful for that, I hope I never have to, but I know that is highly unlikely. The new test equipment sounds really cool though.

Hi there - like the hat! lol
Glad to hear your headaches aren't tooo serious and should get better with the new glasses. I've never heard of Optomap, but the my eyes aren't really bad so I tend not to visit the optician too often.
I have been lucky enough to always have 20/20 vision. But after the birth of my first son 5 years back I found that I was battling with night driving and went to get my eyes checked. It seems I still have good vision, but am having trouble with bright lights blinding me. The light seems to bleed out from the centre and can be quite distracting when driving.
Upshot of this is that I have been given transitional glasses which 'dampen' the bright lights but in all honesty, do very little else and I actually find my vision clearer without the glasses than with them ... which means I hardly ever wear them! I am supposed to wear them for computer work, TV and night driving mainly.
Thanks
Violetdreams

Thanks, I've been in the holiday spirit for awhile now.
I've worn glasses since I was about 7 or 8.
I'd get a checkup with that light issue you're having though.

I have had it checked and it hasn't gotten any worse over the last couple of years. Apparently is not that unusual as one gets older (not that I am that old...:¬) - at least I don't think so). It's not that bad really and doesn't hassle me much.
I can still read a book without glasses, watch TV and work on the computer, and can even read road signs easily, so really don't need the glasses to be quite honest. In fact I use them more as sunglasses and to cut the glare than anything else.
If I am feeling a bit of eye strain (which happens from time to time) then I wear them for a few days then I am fine for quite a while again. It's odd to be honest.
Perhaps the docs just wanted my money!!!

My eyes are getting worse I need to get to the doctor and get a new eye exam I need a new pair of glasses since my others were broken and I haven't been able to wear them. The television is getting a little blurrier and I can't see the writing on it like I before. It's been awhile since I seen a eye doctor though. My mom went a few months ago see is diabetic and her glasses need changing and she was told not to drive because her eyes were getting worse since she has trouble keeping her sugar under control. They scheduled her a appointment to have surgery but she cancelled twice afraid to do it.

Nice sharing it GRANDPA BOB, Personally i haven't been to the eye Doctor. For almost 29 years of my life i only went to the eye doctor once and that was not my choice but it's required at the job i'm applying abroad and that was 4 years ago. I haven't had any problem on my eye ever since but recently i had this pain whenever i'm in front of the computer. Well i haven't feel it before though but i'm a bit worried now and want to see an eye doctor to know if its my eye giving the pain or if i'd used it too much since i spent most of my time now in the computer. Maybe i just think too much or worried too much which maybe the cause of the pain. I will try to see an eye doctor one of these days. Thanks for sharing, its very informative.

Staring all day at a monitor can cause headaches.
I'd go see the eye Dr if I were you just to be safe.

Hi, GrandpaBob!
It's good that you didn't take for granted what your head is telling you. I'm not familiar with Optimap or Optomap. That's a cool technology though, being able to see a 320 degree view of the retina.
I haven't been to an optometrist to have my eyes check. I only go there to accompany my boyfriend. Unfortunately he has a Retinitis Pigmentosa and was just named only like 10 years ago. His grandmother noticed it when he was only 10 months, and he's been wearing glasses since then. Not only glasses, but thick ones. Right now, even if he's wearing what they call the "ultra thin glass", you can still notice how thick it is. I think the other one's grade is 750 and the other 700, more or less.
His eyesight is deteriorating by the day and there's no cure for it. He's taking some medicines and vitamins to help prolong his vision. But time can only tell.
I think I have a 20/20 vision. As far as I can remember, it was checked like 8 years ago during medical examination requirement for a job. If only I can give my eyes to him, I will. ^^v

I had a sister-in-law that was legally blind from Retinitus Pigmentosa.
Deteriating eyesight is the main thing about this disease too.
She went totally blind by the time she was 45.
She never had meds or anything.
Just the thick bottle lenses.

That Optimap sounds wonderful!! Do you still have the read that stupid eye chart? That's the part I hate, choosing between view A and view B so he can write the prescription. Hope your eyes feel better soon!
