We know there are two types of monitors out there. CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) and LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). Of these two types, CRT is the most used monitor in the computer world. This monitor is available everywhere and also comparatively cheap. But nowadays in most of the offices, LCD monitors are used. I don't know why they use LCD monitors. To show aristocracy or what? LCD monitors are very costly. They require you a lot of money to buy. Where as you can do the same work with both types of monitor.
I have seen LCD monitors in many rich people's houses as well. I have asked many people why they have bought LCD monitors with so much money....but I have not got any satisfactory answer.
What do you think? Is there any difference between a CRT and an LCD monitor? Which type do you use?

Rich people? LCD monitors have become the norm for computers today. Computer stores don't really sell CRT monitors anymore because they are so bulky and heavy and the technology is outdated. I am by no means rich, but I have an LCD monitor for my newer desktop computer. I think I paid around 170 dollars for it and you can get a decent one for as little as 150 dollars. That's really not that expensive. I remember when I was younger, a CRT monitor cost about 300 dollars. I prefer an LCD monitor because it is smaller so it frees up desk space, they are usually widescreen so there is more space on a 17" LCD than a 17" CRT, and they have a clearer picture.

i prefer LCD monitors.. It consumes less electricity... and yes, it's more exciting to use as it has bigger screen display.. Recently, dad bought an 18 inch LCD monitor to replace the old one.. it's kind of expensive but worth it.. actually, you can find some generic LCD monitors at the mall.. you just need to raid the stores to find great deals..

I think this is a change in technology. When computers came in offices they were able to afford those CRT monitors but as time passed they became old fashioned and cheap. Now you can get a LCD monitor for the same price at which you could have got a CRT monitor in those days. And second reason could be that they save space. There is alot of difference in the display quality in LCD and CRT monitor. you cant say that there is no difference between both of them

CRT and LCD monitors have the same functions, it would be the preference of the user what he'll gonna choose. Today, i am using CRT monitor and it doesn't bother me if it's large. But the two monitors have their own advantages and disadvantages. CRT is heavy and large enough compared to LCD, also generate excess heat and larger power consumption on the other hand it is cheap and has good resolution compared to LCD. On the other hand, LCD is said to be 80% less weight and size compared to CRT, energy efficient but expensive and have not flexible resolution compared to CRT. But nowadays, the production of CRT is reducing opposite to LCD thus makes the LCD nowadays more affordable.

I don't like CRTs, or those big, clunky, heavy type of monitors. They're almost as heavy as TVs, and more clumsier to carry around. Besides, CRTs are meant for home, and for the desktop PCs. CRT monitors are just like desktops: heavy to carry around, and take up more space than needed.
So therefore I like LCD monitors. They're just like laptops: almost light, easier to carry around, and have clearer image quality. Even if you have a "disabled" or "crippled" laptop like my Hewlett-Packard Omnibook 4150, you can set your LCD monitor to be your external laptop monitor. That's why I love LCD monitors.

right here in my home i have a crt monitor it is simply because i cannot afford to buy the lcd monitor...if i got the money i will certainly replace this crt i have here...most offices use lcd monitor because it is more fashionable and does not occupy lots of space and the viewing area that it covers is very huge and wide...so lcd is very in fashion and even in tv models the slim type lcd tv is very hot commodity nowadays especially for those who can afford it.

Before, I also had a CRT monitor, yes its cheap, But here is a trivia for you.. Dont you know that CRT monitors consume MORE Electric power than an LCD monitor..
Ive learned that from my professor, and from our IT manager. So I just switched to LCD monitor and have noticed that their statements are really true. What is investing in an LCD monitor to lessen your electric bill, than buying a cheap one (CRT) that will cost you more in the long run :0

For me the winner is LCD, hands up to it. But for some they still prefer LCD because of the resolution of it, especially to those who are editing pictures because of the quality of the picture. In CRT hey can see every detail unlike LCD that lacks quality in the picture.

i too like lcd monitors. because its way too better than crt in terms of power, features, clarity and perfection. the more important thing is that lcd are good for our eyes , like crts lcds dont emit high intensity light out. so its very good for our health too.

LCD is the latest in monitors. I guess it is the best option to choose right now firstly because they say that it consumes lesser electricity so it just means that it is already energy efficient that CRT's. CRTs are said to emit radiation that over a long period of time might become harmful to your eyes and your health in general plus compared to its energy usage CRT's are not as efficient as LCD already.

Hello Little Boy,
As for me, I like the LCD monitors the most. Well for one reason, I spend 4 to 8 hours with my computer, so LCD is good for me, because it tend to produce less eye fatigue. Aside from that, LCD draws less energy than that consume by CRT monitor.
Happy mylotting!

LCD. It's better for the eyes, good color output, and the best thing about it? It's not heavy to carry.
I know it's costly but it really worth buying...

well, i like LCD monitor because it's more clearer to view pictures or movies than CRT monitor... It also won't affect our eyes because it produces minimal radiation... it's also very slim and can save a lot of space... but there a disadvantage... it's very expensive than CRT monitor... but, if it's got a lot of advantages, everyone would buy it...
