I dont have any idea about this queary, because people are used to open their computer when ever its needed..
-this is not a emergency lamp to use it and keep the battery charged..
-I dont think that this is the Car for which we have to start the engine often to keep the batter will not get it dry, it will get it charged.
This is the electrical/electronical items, so, we can use this when ever we required. and also we need to keep it covered to prevent from the dust. and when we switched on, we have to remove the cover and use the same.
This doesn't meant that you can switched of the computer for years of time, and switched on later..
All the electrical and the electronics items, to be used frequently, but i dont think that this is necessary to use 4 hours for every 24 hours or so...
May be this is the effective usages of the computer, this may be the statagy, or this may be the effective utilisation of the sytem, they might have quote that, you can use it for 4 hours in a day.
In fact, in our collect, in the office room, the system will be switched on in the morning 8 a.m. and it will be switched off after 6.30 p.m. only.. where it has been used for more than 10 hours and so..
Have a good day.

It doesn't matter how long your computer is on. In an office, they stay on all day long. My laptop stays on from the time I get up until I go to bed, even if I'm not using it. My regular PC has stayed on for days at a time and nothing has happened to it. The only thing is, be sure, if there happens to be a thunder storm, to unplug it. We always try to do this so it will not be hit by lightning. When my PC is on, and I'm not using it, I do turn the monitor off.
