Work promotion: blog or website

Hi everyone.
I'm currently writing a piece for Helium about what's better for promoting your work online, website or a blog. And while I have my own opinion (blog all the way, for various reasons) I was wondering what do you think. What do you use to promote your work (writing, business, online earning opportunities)? Do you use website or blog?
Most importantly, why do you use that particular thing?
What do you think works better?

I have gotten many more referrals through other websites. my blog just doesn't have that kind of traffic. I found 2 great social networking sites that just helps people promote their other sites. they are great community for business people or people trying to earn online.

Sure, I get many referrals from thewozone (websiteownerzone)
and from 6dgr. which also pays you to refer other members after you join. But there are a lot of business minded peopel there so I can post my other sites there too. Plus I Made about $100 from 6dgr in 2 1/2 months to boot.. :)
I have also found a bit of success at yuwie... but there you have to have a lot of friends on your list because only friends can see your bulletins.. but the 2 above -if you post a blog the whole network can see it. I love that.. the wozone encourages you to leave your links all over..
I have banners on my profile page to both. All are free to join.

I am finding out that blogs are much easier than websites, because most of the blog systems have tools built right in. However, if at a possible it is nice to make your blogs as unique as possible because there is quite a bit of competition out there. I am kind of in the process of learning all this myself so let me know how it goes for you!
