Well I went to get dad and I some McDonalds for dinner as he loves their double cheeseburgers. Anyhow this was the first time I had noticed something at the one near my house. They have braille menus for the blind as well as picture menus for the mute and illiterate members of society. I thought this was a great thing to see. I have never thoguht of the blind etc eating at McDonalds actually. Odd thought but it was there. Does your McDs have menus for the handicapped as well? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I haven't noticed it at McD's, but I have at other places. What I want to know is why is there braille in a drive-up ATM????

That is because people will walk up to ATM's. They also can be in the passenger seat behind the driver and use a drive up ATM.

I never realized that. I always thought it was funny and couldn't imagine the situations under which someone would use a drive-up ATM and be blind. Now I know. Thanks.

I haven't eaten at mcdonalds in years so I really don't know what they have anymore, but probably if they don't have it now, they will get it soon, they should all follow suit.

No my McDonald's dosent have those features yet, but I think its great idea for mcdonalds to add special features like that to more of there restaurants in fact I think our society should have a lot more things in the world for those who have disabilities.

Going through the drive thru I saw a sign telling drivers there is a braille menu available. At first I kept thinking, how is a blind person going to see that sign? They can't see, and I sure as heck hope they aren't driving. But of course relatives, coworkers, or friends can see it, and it will be handy if someone riding with them should ever need a braille menu.

Don't say blind people don't drive. I did this with my blind brother once. I operated the gas pedal and he drove by the directions I gave him. This was all in a parking lot and hilarious actually. It was a test for both us actually dreamed up by us both. To see if I gave good directions and if someone blind could drive like that. We did fairly well also. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I can't remember the last time I went INTO a McDonalds. Probably to go to the bathroom on the road. When I do that, I will get a drink or some fries, their fries are great! I don't eat at Micky D's because they have so few things on their menu I can eat!

hmmm... menu in braille... nope.. nothing like that on our shores yet. that's real thoughtful/smart of the store management to do that.. really makes them look real 'good' in the eyes of the society, doesnt it? there is one McD outlet in our city that has deaf and mute at the counter selling the food.. have you seen anything like that?.. the customers only points to what they want on the menu on the counter and pays accordin to the cash register.. i was quite impressed when i first went to that particular outlet.

Very good idea. I've seen restaraunts have braille menus but never picture ones for the mute and or illiterates. Another great idea I feel. I've known deaf mutes and I have a blind younger brother so I am used to their problems etc at places like this. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hi grandpa bob... I am not sure about that...but our Mcdonalds doesn't have a handicapped wheelchair accessible entrance... Actually the way the doors are set up is just plain weird....but no one in a wheelchair will be able to enter because the access just isn't there... I find this very sad...I mean I thought that all establishments had to have wheelchair accessabilities....

Well that's not right at all I feel. People in wheelchairs eat McDonalds also. Have you thought about mentioning this to the manager there at all? Here in the states it is alw for public places to be accesible to wheelchairs and the handicapped etc. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I was just thinking about what you said and there is another entrance...but I've never used it...I just know it is there because I can see it...Next time I am out I will go to that entrance and check to see if that is accessible.... If it isn't then I will bring it up with the manager... Did you get the surprise I sent you yet? Just wondering because I want to make sure I have your address right...

I've never noticed, but I think it's a great idea as well. Blind and illiterate people want burgers too. That's very nice of McDonald's to think of that.

This is anindependant McDonalds as well. So maybe it isn't the McDonald companys idea. I think it is though as opposed to an independant owner. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Independent stores can't usually do things like that if it is not approved by corporate. I used to work in a Pizza Hut franchise, so I know a bit about it. My husband was GM of that Pizza Hut, and could make certain decisions himself, but the larger choices were up to corporate, not franchise.

Bob, to tell you the truth, I've never paid any attention to the menus lately. I really don't think ours near us does, though. I usually look up at the menus and haven't seen anything different. But I suppose they would have to have card menus for the blind. All of ours has the picture menus on the wall.

Well, our Mcdonalds here does not have such things that you have mentioned. But it is very interesting to note such things are already in place for people with disabilities. That would surely help those with handicapped. It is very much a welcome development and hope that McDonalds in our country would follow soon.
