Don;'t say something is wonderful until you have loved it yourself

I grew up in a small house. The only time we had a large house was after my mother died, and he remarried and we lived in a fixer up. It had an upstairs and a basement. Then I left home, and lived with some friends in a very small house. I remember that when she looked for jars, p*ts and pans, electric mixer, etc. she had to move everything out to get it, because she did not have enough cupboard space. I boarded with a lady who had a small house, not as small, but she did not have much room for anything either. AFter that I boarded with a wealthier family who had a larger house and I was surprised that we did not have to move things around to get to the mixmaster, or put things on the top shelves to get to the vacuum cleaner, and the closet was big enough for put the sheets in folded 4 times instead of 8 times. I then had to move into a small apartment before I got married, and later when I marred, we just lived in small three bedroom houses with no enough cupboard space, etc. Yet I hear people say that living in a small house or apartment is wonderful. Well I did and there is things that i needed that even if I could have afforded them, there was no place for them. So unless you are content with hardly any books, no place to study, having to move things to get the mixer or the vacuum cleaner, having to look behind things to get to the laundry products,do not assume that small is wonderful. Oh and I forget to tell you about the times, I had to move everything on the table or the sofa to use the vacuum cleaner.

Well i supposs it is a matter of preference..I grew up in a small 3 room house..We had a bedroom for Mom & dad,a living room for us & i had a single bed in the living room..a kitchen,a bath and a small room onto the back of the bathroom...I loved it,but i do not know if my Mom did..She was a wonderful homemaker & she had our little home fixed up like a little doll house. It was cosy & safe and warm ..In the summer it was cool..Wonderful times & memories were collected in that small home...Growing up we never lived in a big house..So I don't remember Mother really complaining a lot.I know she had some storage in the back of the bathroom, which was a separate small room connected to the bathroom without a door..I slept in the living room on my single bed and she always had it all pretty with a pretty bedspread and pillows...When i married we had a bigger home..now i have a trailor home ,not big,but i moved out & let my soon to be ex husband live there ,and i plan to get an apartment....I don't need a lot of room, but the few things that mean a lot to me,i want them to be nice, but i only need one of each,so i am willing to downsize some...I supposs it just depends..Smaller is be\tter for me since i am alone & its less scarey.......

I always liked big. I always loved to cook and I hated putting away the mixer which is what happens when you have a small house, the kitchen is small and so you put away the necessities. And when you put things away, it means you do not use them except for special occasions. So when we fixed up this house, I keep the mixer on the counter. I am not into downsizing. I figure that once you start, then things are not small enough and soon you will live in a pup tent. Oh and since I love to cook, it is better for entertaining when you have enough space for the dishes and a large pantry plus I want a piano and there would be room enough to put it in the house. This house is not big enough.

Well a Lot of people like a big house.I loved a big house when i was married and had children.I supposs i only got this way after the kids left and I was alone a lot, then big houses scared me when i was alone...As far cooking though I do really like a big kitchen,it doesn't matter to much about the rest but i love a big kitchen..where you can have all you need out so you can get to it...

I feel the writer is just speaking about the life of any creature in a small world, small meaning small in space. He is very much showing his concern on how he manages the space he lived in the trouble he hd to go through, the things which are necessary for life is now making a hinderance to living.

I have a husband who does not want to build shelves to put things on, and gets upset when I came home twice with two bookcases. I did assemble them myself, but he was brought up where you did not buy books that much while we had lots of books in our house. He also grew up in a small house, but I grew up in one but it was a two story and it seemed to have a lot more room then it really did. The point is that if the house is too small, you wind up throwing away not just the stuff you consider as not necessary, but stuff that is needful. And it is hard to clean.

I think to each his own, everyone has to decide what they like. However, I know when things beocme too cluttered , I get stressed more from the not having anywhere to put anything ,etc... but tend to be a packrat! So I have to get in one of those clean it out moods and unclutter to feel better about things!

We (me and my ex)lived in a 1 bedroom apartment with 2 kids. Talk about cramped quarters. We didn't have a stove so I cooked on a hotplate, slow cooker, electric fry pan, toaster oven, toaster, deep fat fryer, and a hot pot for water. The kitchen was big enough for a table to hold all of these items. It was also where we placed the washing machine. There were only a few cupboards over and under the sink. There was cereal and bread on the top of the fridge. Other food items were stored under the table in milk crates. Yup, I can tell ya all about cramped living. Cozy comes to mind. But, crazy does too.

When I was eighteen or so I had a small room, and it was very crowded, but then I did not have that much. I did not mind as I had not accumulated anything yet, and I did an offer to board with someone or was it the live in job - such a long time ago, but I was not in that place long enough, but I had been in so many small places, that I wondered why people seemed to think that was wonderful and why when we had our recession in the 1990s they were trying to say to people "buy a smaller house" or "move into an apartment" I mean, for someone like me who is born clumsy, that is darn right dangerous advice.

I grew up in a big house, or so I thought. When I grew up, the house did not look so big as when I was small. When I moved out, I lived in several houses most of which were big. One house was so big, one room could accommodate one of these low-cost houses being sold in housing projects. I love big houses. Cheers!!

It sounds like the house I grew up with. It had two stories and I thought it was big. Well we went back to see it about fifteen or so years ago, and I was amazed how small it was. But having two stories and an attic meant there was more places to put things then if it was a bungalow. Anyway I cannot see how anyone can even live in a small place without bumping into anything.

I used to live in a big house but were many. So I did not really enjoyed it. No privacy and people seemed to be everywhere. I'd rather prefer living in a small house with my family alone. Like now.

I have the same problem when living in a small house. No matter where you are someone can always find you and there is no privacy. And now that there are just the two of us, my husband puts his walker in front of the computer door, and I have to move it to get to the computer or if he is using the computer he puts it in front of the bedroom, and the doors are not that wide. I like a large house so that I can do something quietly and not worry, and also I can put things on the shelf and not have to put the mixer in the cupboard after I use it.

my livingroom in a small place - my livingroom in a small area
Small can be beautiful if decorated approperatly. I live in a small apartment but the way it is decorated is the important thing. Every space is used constructively. For example, in the picture of my livingroom below, you can see that I have decorated it with a country feeling. It is all in browns and I have thrown a lot of pillows on the couch to give it a cosy feeling. This is just one of the small rooms in my place. But my point is that small, in my cse, is cosy and very comfortable because I decorated it to be that way. I don't have a lot of places to put books so I don't save any, I trade them in after I read them, or give them away. Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend, Have a good day, your friend Chris

I keep my books. I have some Christian books and some classics as well as my writing books. Somethings you cannot trade. If one does not do much reading, then small is all right, but for someone like me, the bigger the better.

I have lived in small, medium and large and I prefer the medium. My trailer barely contains but we have now and it is a 14x70 but if I got rid of stuff I haven't used within a year or two it would seriously be almost empty. Small is only nice when you have family wanting to sponge off you and so you can always say sorry not enough room..for more then a few day visit. they get tired easily of tripping over each other..

I have to agree. We moved from a 2 bedroom apartment with a big kitchen with lots of cabinet space, granted some of it was in the hallway, into a three bedroom house with the worst kitchen in the world. I had to throw away so much kitchen stuff because there just wasn't anywhere to put it. Now I am really missing my cool kitchen stuff and can't wait until I have enough money to redo my kitchen and buy more cool new stuff. Also, the walls are so thin and the house seems so squished together. If someone sneezes in another room, you can hear it wherever you are. I have to watch tv with the captions on so I can read it because I can't have it loud enough to hear.

I hear you. I am in a small house and I hate it, having to pack up and store things in an attic that is barely there, even some of my dishes are up there becauase of lack of cupboard space..:(

We were happy when we got our own house, but then the interest rates were sky high and could not get as large as we wanted. Now I have to throw stuff away that I would rather keep and I really do not like that.
