Do you practice what ye preach or just do the opposite and practice later?

I am not a religious fanatic but I've friends who are really preaching their own. Sometimes, their ways are annoying to the fact that they would open their Bible and try to inject their beliefs on it. I am a Bible reader myself and I do read other religious books also that I have read some similarities with them about "doing good and the possible outcome of doing the other". Yet, I am not judgmental on my friend's views and opinions but it really bothers me when I could see some instances that they don't practice what they preach. Did you ever encounter such situations?

Yes. I refuse to join any organised religion on the grounds that most people 'cherry pick' the bits that they wish to follow. Since I could not join any group that I did not mostly agree with, I feel they should be the same. Most religions I believe have a common set of values whjich are based on common sense and pre-date religions anyway. On top of that each religion has added extra bits to distinguish their religion from others. These add-ons are oftern for dubious reasons - for example - where does it say in the bible that contraceptives should not be used? And even if it did, why should that still be relevant or crucial in an over-populated world 2000 years later? As long as you lead a good life and avoid upsetting others and try to help others what is the problem? I do not believe it is necessary to threaten people with eternal damnation for breaking some trivial rule to make them co-operate. i believe in positive reinforcement and wish that religions would get involved in real and current issues rather than trying to relate everything to 2000 year old rule book.
