People were calling police and radio station saying I AM NOT CRAZY

My husband and I met after work and had supper together. We were half way through our meal when all at once the whole sky lite up and lite the entire inside of the restaurant. It hit then hit again immediately but only really lasted 2 or maybe 3 seconds. I was shocked and I said, "What was that?" People ran to the window to look out but didn't see anything. People were saying it was extreme lightening. My husband called it right away he said, "I don't know, but that was no lightening, I'd say it was more like a meteor." We finished our meal and left. On the way home we had our radio on and it was confirmed a meteor had hit. We still don't know where it hit or if anyone was hurt. Has anyone here in myLot land ever seen a meteor shower or experienced anything like this? I will never forget it.

I heard about this yesterday it sounds like it must have been really something to see, quite scary too. I think from what I read yesterday it was confirmed as being a meteor I wonder if it landed anywhere or whether it just carried on its merry way through space! You were certainly lucky to see something like that I have never seen anything like that!

That must have been a great experience, and a bit scaring too..
I have never seen anything like that yet, but read about what happened on the text TV and made a search.
I posted a discussion about it and a link to some news. The same site also has great space photos..

Hi Grandmaof2, I have heard about it and they are saying that it was a meteor. Scientists are hoping to locate it but it will be difficult as it was said to be small and could have fallen anywhere on the prairies. Since it a piece of another planet, Scientists believe it may be as much as 4 billion years old and I'm sure they could learn a lot from it. Blessings

I had not heard about this. My mom lives in Tofield and works in Edmonton. I'll have to ask her if she saw or heard anything.

I'm sure she must have heard about it alright. It's top news. The good news is so far no report of anyone being hurt and they still haven't figured out where it hit. It was a sight I will never live long enough to forget. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving. We all have so much to be thankful for.

wow that would be strange. I hope no one was hurt and it didnt do much damage. You would think there would be some notice that something like this would happen.

We certsinly didn't see or notice anything different and I haven't heard otherwise from anyone either. I sure hope as well no one was hurt but Edmonton is about three hours west and Regina is about 8 hours east and both places saw it too and there's rumor it was seen in the US.

how exciting that must have been.... shocking to say the least.
I wonder if you found pieces of the meteor if you could sell them on ebay, heh.
I have seen showers (lots of "falling stars" but never experienced them in any close vicinity to myself.
WoW!

No one has found pieces but let me tell you it's even in the news that it could be worth a lot of money if found. If I ever found a piece I'd want to keep it. I don't have money but I would want to keep something like that. I don't need to concentrate on that because I don't get around well enough to go looking. Besides there's still no proof that it survived earths admosphere. I know what I saw and I'll never forget it. It was something to see.

That really must have been something to see, Grandma!
I've never witnessed anything like that before but, when I was in the Caribbean, the amount of "shooting stars" was awesome! I never knew that there were so many meteors coming into our atmosphere! Of course, most of them burn up before ever hitting the ground. I'm very curious to hear more about "your" meteor!
I was totally floored by a bolt of lightning once, however. I was driving on an interstate highway when lightning struck somewhere directly ahead of us. It was HUGE and lit up the entire sky, like your experience. I never saw so many brake lights going on at the exact same moment before in my life! But, this was definitely lightning because we could see it come down and attach itself to something on the ground for maybe 2 seconds! Awesome!!!

Hi grandmaof2! Wow! That must have been really scary! No,
I have never seen a meteor shower! It must have been really
weird not knowing what it was! I'll bet people were really
scared to see it. I hope that no one was hurt by it. I can't
imagine just suddenly seeing a flash of light like that and
not having a clue to what it could be!

I was shocked thst's for sure and my husband said he wondered if it was a meteor but I made light of it and asked him if he was serious. There's still no proof that it survived earths admosphere. It has been determined it was indeed a meteor. I know what I saw and I'll never forget it. It was something to see.

This was on the news since last night. Apparently it was a large meteor that was in the meteor showers that occur periodically. One news item states it was between 1 and 10 tons and could have been the size of a desk. I guess we are lucky it was not a really big one. I heard it turned the night sky into dayligt for a few seconds.
I often wonder too what they are worth if you are able to find one. You can sell almost anything these days from fossil dinosaur poop to crystals. I guess the hard part would be to establish ownership of the item.

I forgot to add that this meteor occurred in western Canada but could be seen miles away because it was so bright. I did not hear of anyone in the USA seeing it so it probably did not make the news there.

I'm not sure if there is ever one here
I think we've had something (i forgot what is it called) like ice rain instead of water, it's just mild but I can hear it hits the roof and it scares me a bit
It must be small because if it were big bulk of ice it would hurt people and damage cars or machinery

i suppose it could be ball lightening, but unlikely.
ball lightning never lights up the whole sky.
does sound like a meteor.
i've seen some at a distance, but never up close like that.

I was visiting with a friend and we both stopped talking when it happened. I thought it might be a falling star she thought spotlights for poachers and her husband figured flares for poachers in the field on the other side of the tree line.
When i got to moms she said she had seen it too and shes 10 miles from where i was visiting...so i knew it wasnt flares or poachers. I had to wait til the next day to find out what it really was though.
