Do you set up a train around your Christmas tree?

If you don't celebrate Christmas, what kind of family traditions do you carry?

I thought about doing a train, but seems pointless in my house, between the pets, and kids I know it wouldn't stay running, or even put together. It's something I might do when the kids are older and the puppy is a bit more mature.

My father in law makes a 4 ft. high train platform because the great danes would step on it otherwise. (not to mention to keep little fingers off of it) Thanks for the reponse.

We don't set a train up around the Christmas tree, but this year, our whole living room will be set up with the Fisher-Price GeoTrax train. My son has fallen in love with the whole train thing, and so for his birthday (which is in 10 days), we bought him tons of additions to his already taking-over-the-house set!

Geo-Trax.. that looks like a lot of fun! (even for an adult!) Put a few little presents in one of the open cars to make it a gift train. (a hopper car, I think?) Thanks for the reponse!

Growing up my parents didn't do that, but my husband and I do. It blows smoke and everything. When we set up our other train for the kids to play with my daughter (19 months old) will stand in the middle and go in circles following it until she gets dizzy and falls down. It's so cute.

Ahh yes, my hubby is a model train enthusiast. He has the upstairs layout filled with "push-buttons" for our kids. Your little girl sounds too sweet! :o)

We don't set up a train around the christmas tree (that'd be cutee though), our tradition is to make a gingerbread house every year.

Trains can be so much fun! And a little frustrating too, especially when they run off the track. Thanks for the reponse.

Wow as a matter of fact, my husband has a nice train set and we have in the past set it up around the christmas tree but lately we have not done so. I am thinking about doing it this year but I am not sure yet. I am hoping to get all the pieces together to do it for this year because,,, yes we have a fake already lit tree, although it is really nice, I love it and do not have to haul in a new tree, or take down a tree or worry about needles falling from the tree so yeah, that is it in a nutshell

I celebrate Christmas but we don't put a train around our tree. I've always liked the idea of doing that. I don't because I have cats and dogs. They would play with the train and not leave it alone.

lol, it seems every year there was a lamb missing from the Manger.. thanks to the dog. My father in law has 4 great danes. He makes a seperate layout for the trains at Christmas time. Well.. he raises the platform so that it is about 4 feet high so that dogs don't trample on it.

We have never set up a train around the tree, but that is an excellent idea! I think we may do that this year. My daughter would absolutely love that. Thanks !

You're very welcome! And you could also do some "do it yourself" little houses and villages. (you could make it a family night of making them!) OR, check out your local dollar store, they usually have little houses. And thanks for telling me it was a good idea! ;o)
