do you put up christmas lights at your house? when do you put them up? when do you turn them on? is Dec 1st the date you turn them on? how many lights to you put out? they were talking about christmas lights on the radio and saying that people should turn them on now so life is just a tiny bit cheery in light of the way the way the economy is.
but what do you think? a man called in saying he put up 7,000 lights! wow, thats a lot. also, i have heard that a zoo in the US are NOT putting up their christmas lights because they will harm the environment. thought?

Yes we always put up Xmas lights. We tend to put them up the weekend after Thanksgiving so that would be next weekend. Every year I try to rearrange them a little differently so its not the same old boring thing! I'm not sure exactly how many lights we do put up. I have some icicle lights, star shaped lights then lots of colored lights that I wrap up in garland. Last year we bought a pre-lite tree with white lights & I used a bunch of primitive country decorations on it like tin stars, snowmen etc... & it was so pretty! Last year we didn't put up as many cuz I was about 3-4 months pregnant & really didn't have much energy to do it plus it was our first Xmas without my mother-in-law so my husband was pretty bummed out & didn't really care about it. This year will be different though as we have a daugher this year & are really looking forward to her first Xmas! I saw a house the other day with their lights on already & thought they were nuts, but you know what cher, you are right, maybe it would make everyone a little more cheery seeing Xmas lights. I never thought about it like that. I can't believe the thing about the zoo! Do you know where it was? That's just silly!

When I was a child we never decorated the house inside or out as we always left town for Chirstmas. After getting out of college and getting my own place, I have always decorated, but only inside and not always with lights. But this year I am going to put up outside lights. I am still living in an apartment, but I have a couple of nice windows I can decorate and I have found some wonderful solar lights. I expect them to work quite well. We will put them up this weekend. I am very excited about this, just like being a kid again.

We normally decorate our house with Christmas lights every year, and we usually put them around the roof of our house and around a couple of trees near the road. Most years, we put them up the weekend after Thanksgiving; however, we don't turn them on until the first of December. I think would put up approximately 800 lights. I love seeing Christmas lights around peoples houses, and I especially like it when they do a thorough job of making it look nice. There is a family about a half hour from my house that put up over 10000 Christmas lights, and it is absolutely beautiful. Many people in the community will go out of their way to see them. I don't think that Christmas lights provide a great deal of harm to the environment, but they do use some electricity, which comes from air polluting coal. There are worse appliances though, like computers or televisions, that use much more electricity so Christmas lights aren't that harmful.

We put Christmas lights around the second week of December
and we never leave them on all the night ..
Cause of Energy savings and I don't see that reason of leaving lights on..
as our flat is way on 4th floor and that too kind of hidden behind the other flats.. the lights can't reach to the nearest road..
But I leave them on all night from 24th dec to 2 jan..
cause its a party week!!
And 7000 lights...!! what is that man trying to prove ..
Better if you could give away some gifts to the orphanage, or poor people..
have a happy Christmas!

Me personally, I do not like to put too many lights up. It just seems like a bit too much hard work to me to have a house full of lights! Plus I would not be able to afford to have them on all the time due to the rising cost of fuel at the moment. I actually feel sorry for the people in my area who usually cover their houses in pretty lights and things this time of the year, I wonder if they will still do the same or whether they will not bother or will put less up because it would cost them a fortune. I just have a few fibre optic things that I have, I prefer fibre optics to the actual fairy lights now.

We used to have a lot of Christmas light inside and outside our home. But recently, with the influx of Chinese made lights, there have been an increase in the number of fire incidents caused by Christmas light. Every year, a house burns down because of the Christmas tree and it's really sad. SO this year, we don't have any lights anymore as a precaution.

Christmas time is beautiful, funny and lovely to everyone's heart, and it comes only one time a year , so i always enjoy it as much as i can .i have never counted the number of the lights i use,but they are nearly around 800 lights. This year i am going to increase the number to be around 1500 lights.
concerning the harm of environement it is almost true that light can destroy things but this fact is reserved only for special places like "old caves" and for special things like "mummys".

Since we moved down south, my husband puts a few lights on the bushes. We never did up north, but since the weather is warm, he doesn't mind being out there messing with them. He usually does it on December 1st or so. I would guess he puts out about 5 or 6 strings of lights, but I don't know how many are on each.
Yes, I can't imagine putting out 7,000 lights. That would be quite a job. I sure hate to hear they could be harming the environment. The one drawback I did think of was the use of electricity.

This will be the first year that I am able to put up lights in our new house. We bought our first home last year and were unable to put up lights because of all of the moving. I am really excited and have already started decorating. Its also my daughters first christmas and birthday so I want it to be really special for her. I don't know if I will be decorating outside, just the windows and things in my house. We always get a real tree so I won't be able to put that up until the second week of december so that it doesn't go bad. Happy holidays.

We put up Christmas lights by november 16 or two weeks before dec 1st. We just use two sets of curtain x'mas lights and the lantern with the lights in it. Another set maybe to be put up on a xmas tree and that's it, Of course the more the merrier, i love to see a big house fully decorated with x'mas lights however for us, who's simply living, simple decors will do...
