Barack Obama: Stepping up to make us PROUD?

Originally, Obama had supported the auto bailouts and promised he'd do it in Jan if Bush doesn't.
Perhaps he has rethought that position, and perhaps he was as much put off as we were by the way the Big 3 showed up in DC on their 3 private jets, and not even offering a semblance of a business plan, but just asking for 25 billion MORE to get them thru the next several months, no changes, no plans, nothing to prevent the problem from worsening or from recurring.
Today, his camp is suggesting that sending them to bankruptcy court is not at all out of the question (Nancy Pelosi had stated it was NOT an option). He seems to be indicating that he'd like to see a preworked plan for bankruptcy. Where they would go to bankruptcy court with a worked out restructuring plan, that Congress and/or the White House will assist with.
That would force the restructuring that is needed, force the cooperation from the Unions and others, and yet the restructuring can be done in the least damaging, most helpful way if it is decided before going to court.
At this point, it's just talk, but it does seem that Obama may be listening to the people somewhat -- hooray. It wasn't clear at this point, but I think they would still get money from the government but there would be a ton more oversight and guarantees that they won't go under in 5 months.

I think any bailout money should have a plan pre approved on how it will be spent for each recipient and have an auditor (selected by the government) to oversee how every dime of the money is used

If Obama is backing a chapter 11 type plan for the Big 3, I applaud him for it! The arrogance of the representatives that showed up with no plan should tell the world how little they really care about saving the domestic auto industry.
Obama needs to show the Do Nothing Duo (Pelosi and Reid) what it means to take charge of a situation and get things done. Apparently the leaders of the Big 3 need to learn that lesson also. Let's hope Prs. Obama is up to educating them both.

I truly hope Obama surprises me and does the right thing for America. As with all presidents I give it a "Let's see what happens" attitude when they take office, whether I voted for them or not.
I can only hope he comes more to the center and reaches all people for the better.

I just think that this is just one example of how Obama is not going to stick wiht what he has said in the past. I think that most of what he said was just to get elected. I hope that for all of us I'm wrong, but only time will tell. I'm not saying that I agree with all the bailouts but we do need to start somewhere and I don't think that the bottom up will help us as quick as stabilizing the businesses the employ us.
