How much do you watch your tv? Could you go without turning it on for the day ..for the week ..for the month?
Do you have your tv on sometimes and not be watching it?
I am tossing mine out.. .it's goodbye ..solong..farewell
I simply have not time to watch it..and I don't know what you learn from it ..really.

Glad to here you are not addicted to your tv. I have one and turn it on rarely..sometime I would leave it on for my cats when I left..as though they watched tv..:)

I am glad that the old tube doesn't hold you captive or chained to it..Sometimes..I think people may have the tv on simply for noise..so why not a radio:)

Yeah I do have the tv on for background sound, I do listen to the radio though sometimes too. My tv mainly comes on for certain programmes and of course the childrens cartoons.

Hi friend, when I was staying with my parents back at my home town,I was very much addicted to watching television. There was not even a single day I can stay without watching my favourite programmes. Some programmes were indeed good, something to learn and some were just for the sake of time pass and entertainment. Now,I am in different state and I don't own a TV.In the beginning it was difficult to adjust with situation and I missed my favourite channels and programmes etc,but since I got my new system and internet connection at home,I don't need to watch or have TV at my apartment anymore.Yes,I can live without TV.

I can see where someone who is homebound or alone would find the tv quite helpful in maintaining one's sanity..Glad that you take comfort in it.. I think all things are good in moderation..don't you?

Until recently I haven't had cable tv for about 6 years. The only things I ever watched when I did watch was national geographic, the discovery channel and those sorts of things. But I AM guilty of watching things like anime on the computer and definitely need my tv for video games... I've replaced one downfall of society with another... *sigh* heh.

Well if video games help your mind ..good thing you have your tv..but you know the tv doesn't have to be attached to cable to play the video games ..does it??

Great;) I know some studies show that video games, some of them, can really sharpen your mind;)

Definitely not and it isn't. My room mates have satellite and the only time I watch it is when we have people over for ufc or the like.
I do like this topic though, it can bring up a lot of interesting thoughts.

Yes, I could live without my TV. The only reason it is around is for my son who likes to watch it. I use my computer so much i dont have time for my TV. Besides any show on TV you can find some where on the net. I can watch all my favorites if i really want to watch tv.

Wow what distance to walk..by the way what is 5km in miles? I am not very good with the metric conversion.. I thihk if we are with people who like tv and they turn it on ..it's curtesy not to make a show and complain about it.

No, I cannot live without tv. I like to watch tv and my life will be boring if I don't have a tv. Sometimes, I just like to turn it on even when I'm not watching it and there are times that it makes me relax if my tv is turned on and it helps me to sleep.

I cannot understand how the tv makes life more exciting only that it provides you exciting things to watch.. I think tv stops people from being creative with their time.

Isnn't something how we think we wouldn't make it without our favorite shows..I know since I turned off the tv..I notice things like birds and the cats..and the sound of my computers..the tv sound hides lots of sounds..

I honestly will say that I don't watch t.v much but it is on during the day because my 2 year old likes to watch cartoons. If we did not have a t.v I would probaly pull my hair out because then my son would drive me nuts...lol but then again that's what children's mission is, to drive their parents nuts. I will say I watch t.v about maybe about 10 hours a week. I would miss it a little because I gotta watch my days of our lives, it's a must for me and I watch ghost hunters(Taps), If it was not for thoes two I would not care about the t.v only if my son would an angel and not a hellian during the day.

ha ha .. the tv is your babysitter and defender against the terrible twos;) I have heard that many a parent can quiet a child by putting on barnie or some other show for them to enjoy..
I hope you still have all you hair;)

If I really had to, yes. Would I want to, no. This may sound weird, but I am an aspiring author and I get ideas from the shows I watch. I don't steal ideas that are already there, but by seeing people interact in shows I can think of different stories from how they interact.
More power to you because you want to do something I should! Kuddos!!

Well I too love to write but I want to make sure that I can not be slapped with stealing ideas..there are such strict laws about writing and crediting as one's own what really belongs to another.. .I learned all this from some my online studies where they made us read about plagiarism and the penalites tha come with it..

I hear you on the stealing ideas, but usually when I start an idea it usually takes over and ends up being completely different from when I started!!

It's obvious that everyone could physically survive with no TV. My family always had cable TV when I was growing up. When I moved out on my own, I chose not to spend the money to get cable TV. I used rabit ears to get any local channels I could pick up, otherwise it was just DVD's. It's been a few years since then, and my husband and I now have cable TV. It would be hard going from cable TV to little or no TV at all, but I'm sure I could do it for a few days or so. Some days I have more time to watch tv than others. Then there are certain days of the week that I have certain shows that I watch on a regular basis, such as Monday's I watch Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill, and Tuesday's I watch 90210. I'm not certain, but these shows I actually might be able to pick up without having cable tv. But there are other shows we watch on cable channels, and there is more variety for our children to watch as well (my 4 year old likes to watch Noggin, and our 12 year old likes MTV and the Disney channel).

I hardly watch it. And it wouldn't bother me a bit not to have it around. I spend most of my free time on the computer or doing crafts. I think there is nothing really entertaining on anymore. They are struggling to find ways to make it interesting.

I agree with you ..there is very little any more.. on the tv to grab one's interest.. There are more constructive things people can do with their time ..aren't there?

I would not be able to toss my TV out, however I spend more time online than behind the telly. But there is some shows I really do not want to miss. Before I found my hobbie of making money online, I did spend a lot of time infront of TV.
I do learn things from TV. I work fulltime and have no time to read books, or almost miss the news if i would not have my TV. What you learn depend on what you see. I like to see things on discovery and learn about how FBI work, Animal planet is also a god teacher about animals and the nature. I also watch debating programs, news and one or two movies a month for entertainment I like to se games with music.

Yes I could live without TV but life would be pretty boring without it, I mean dont get me wrong theres more to my life then just watching TV, but once Iv done all my daily activities and taken care of all my responsibilities I like to be able to curl up with my favorite TV show or movie I'm a big movie buff and yes I have gone a whole day without turning on the TV but thats because I had other things to do that day.

I dont watch tv at all. I usually dont get so much time and even on weekends too i dont watch and dont prefer watching a tv. Most of the time I am before the system doing something or the other work but then never a tv. I can live for years together without a tv probably. Now that the internet has taken over the place of the tv, I dont think so many do watch tv, but yes, there are many people mostly our parents or some people who are habituated to watch a tv that they spend their free time watching programs news and so on on the tv.
