Do words make us crazy?

I heard a while back that in societies that do not have the word stutter in their vocabulary do not in fact have people that stutter. If this is true how do you think this would effect society? Have we created more words that are detrimental to us on the whole? Words like crazy, murder, sin, rape. If people didn't learn the definitions of these words growing up and the media didn't publicize the happenings of these things do you think they would happen so often?
