There are a lot of intelligent posters here on MyLot, and I find a lot of you traffic through Politics, so I apologize if this seems out of place! I just want to get legitimate responses from smart people!
I recently started working for a company under the Kaplan Higher Education umbrella, and one of my benefits is free or heavily discounted training programs. I had very recently (maybe two weeks ago) set aside my ambition to attend law school, under the realization that with my current debt I wouldn't be able to start for a MINIMUM of three years. Since I have no clue what I want to do with my life, i.e. start a family, travel abroad, etc, it's not realistic for me to plan on getting this accomplished right now.
Well, I was looking to see what kind of programs Kaplan offers, and I found the Online JD program. It is recognized by the California Bar Association, but not by any other state. That doesn't matter as far as passing the bar, but I was wondering: has anyone here attended an online post-graduate program? Or known someone who has? What was the experience? If somebody has specific online JD program experience, that would be especially helpful!
Thanks!

When I was in college I took advantage of both online and telecredit courses for some of my required general education credits. I found that the online classes had more interactive capabilities than the telecredit and also found them to be more interesting since my field is computer technology. If you have the free time and the interest, I see nothing wrong with taking advantage of this educational perk.

I see where you are coming from, and I am on board with learning. :-) And if it's totally free (not just heavily discounted) I will very likely try to take just courses, i.e. employment law or something, so that I just learn parts that are relevant to my life and career, without worrying about a degree.
My concern is that I will spend four years completing an intensive online program, and not be able to obtain my license to practice. I looked into this a little more, and found that you are only allowed to sit for the California bar exam with this program, and it is questionable if other states will allow you to test if you pass CA bar.
I'm still up in the air with it, I'm hoping that I can find someone who earned their degree through this program (preferable in my state), and find out if they have been able to sit for / pass the bar.
Thanks for the reply!!
