I never really asked for anything that much when i was a kid. I was pretty content growing up. But if there were three things i really wanted but never had, they would have to be:
1. A baby brother/sister. I'm an only child and most of my cousins that i grew up with were older than me, so i grew up not knowing what it's like having a baby in the house. I never got to have any younger siblings, buut i did get to have 6 nephews now (my cousins' sons).
2. A pet tiger. Hehehehe. I've always had this fascination with tigers. Of course i never got to have a pet tiger coz they dont sell tigers in pet shops. I guess i didnt have any idea that tigers were endangered when i was a kid. Hehehehe.
3. A lifesize fully functional robot. Well, when i was growing up, robots were new, and they were famous in tv shows and in movies. I remember the Jetsons had "maid" robot, and c3po and r2d2 in starwars, and others. So i wanted to have one of my own. Of course those robots on tv werent real and if they were, we wouldnt have been able to afford one. Hehehehe.
So there. Those were the silly things i wanted when i was a kid.

Nothing really, as what I have remembered. When I was in my younger years, my and mom have a good and stable job. So whatever my brother and I asked from them, there's really a possibility that we will have it. Too bad we had that attitude when we grew up.

I wanted and fantasized: a bicycle, a pair of skates, a scooter (the old type that aren't sold anymore). I loved the feel of the wind on my face while I was running, I imagined it would be a lot more terrific if I were using those gizmos. But I was a child at a time and place when these were toys for boys. I never had them. I made up for that when I grew older

So you are the one and only child! Oh you have something in common with my one and only son. Sometimes it could really be lonely for the only child! I don't wonder why you really wished to have just a brother or a sister. My son also wished so and just like you he did not but got brothers and sisters in the persons of his cousins and nephews.
I think this topic is interesting although I'm not as young as you are I can still remember my childhood so vividly. The 3 things I never really got as a child are:
1)I wanted a room of my own where I could be staying alone with all my toys displayed. But we were but poor and 9 children so my parents could not afford to give that separate room to me. It was only when I got to grow and got a job when I was able to have a room of my own.
2) I wanted a cooking set toy which I saw from a toy shop. It was a complete set and was so nice to my young eyes but was too expensive for my parents to afford. I never got the cooking set instead I settled for a simpler and cheaper one which was so crude as compared to my original choice.
3) I wanted a dress made of chiffon just like my classmate Loida who looked so elegant in her new chiffon clothes. But again my parent's can't a afford so I settled for a simpler and cheaper dress made of cotton.
All those frustrations however did not gave me bitter memories but rather were used by me as driving force to study hard and reach my full potential as a person. I'm glad that by the wonderful grace of God, I now I have a much more comfortable life and could provide whatever my son desires. My son never experienced having less but I never spoiled him but rather taught him the value of hard work and perseverance in order that he could do just as well and most of all to be always thankful to God for all the blessings.

Your son and i could be good friends, then. Hehehehe. Well, my mom was told by the doctor that it's not good for her to be pregnant again after she had me, so i think that's why my wish to have a younger bro/sis never came true.
Anyway, my parents brought me up kinda like the way you brought up your son. We werent rich but we lived rather comfortably, so it wasnt that hard for me to acquire the things i need or want. But my dad would always tell me that if i work hard enough, i can get whatever i wanted in my life. He made sure i had to achieve goals before i could be given the toys and gadgets that i wanted. You know, the usual keep your grades up or stay in the honor-roll and i'll buy you your RC car, or if you stay out of detention this week, you can go and play at your friends' house this weekend. What do you call it? Reward system? Hehehehe. And dad's reward system was pretty effective.
