Do you start discussions with someone in mind?

Have you ever been thinking about a particular Mylot friend when you start a discussion? Thinking that perhaps that discussion pertains more to that person than anyone else, or maybe you're just more anxious to hear what a particular friend has to say about that discussion? Maybe it's something that you really want to know about that person, but instead of just asking them, you start a discussion about it? A lot of times when I start a discussion I do think about some of my friends on here. Sometimes as I'm typing the discussion I'm reminded of one of them and then look forward to reading their response. Sometimes I do start them because I'm curious about a particular friend. Just so that you know, this one was NOT started with anyone particular in mind. It just popped into my head.

I don't think I've ever started a discussion with anyone in particular in mind. I always hope the friends will come around and respond or perhaps those that have the same interest. But I don't really know enough about anyone here in particular in order to gear a discussion their way.

I've gotten to know a couple people fairly well. Not well enough to say I know a lot about them, but they share their situations and later I may start a discussion thinking "I know so and so has gone through this... I wonder what they'll say to this". In a few weeks I may start a discussion about businesses being too close to home... and I know you'll have something to say about that

It would be great if it didn't happen.

Right now, there isn't much to say about the business. It's either on hold or not going to happen. Not going to happen is what we are hoping!

I don't normally start discussions because of a certain myLot friend, but I do sometimes think about them while I am typing it. Like the other day for example. I was starting a discussion about the coconut macaroons I was making. I remember thinking that one of my friends does not like coconut, so if she answered she would tell me that. And she did.

That happens to me too. I wish your discussions came to my e-mail like everyone else's do, sometimes I forget to look for them. I love coconut, so I would have liked your macaroons.

I don't think anybody gets my notifications. I am not sure why. MyLot must hate me or something. I have had at least 6 people tell me they don't get mine even though they check to make sure they were turned on.

Sometimes I have started a certain discussion for this reason, or other times it could be I responded back to one of their discussions and it made me think about that item and made me want to start a Discussion on that as well. Since we have so many friends and people in here actively posting all of the time, there are a lot of ideas being posted in here all of the time. I think even when we tend to talk about and share some of the same topics and ideas in here, we can also learn from each other from something as well. So if there is something you need to share or ask, why not start a discussion in here about it as well?

I do the same thing. I get a lot of my discussion ideas from discussions I've responded to, or sometimes it's a response to one of my discussions. It usually twists off into a similar but different discussion.

I have not although sometimes I have felt like starting one just to say how nice certain friends are on here but I do not really think it is appropriate! I think I know what you mean though a discussion is a way of drawing someone out and learning more about them although I do not need drawing out I just tell folks anything that they want to know!

So far I have not started a discussion with someone else in mind, be it on this site or other similar sites. Usually the topic comes first and if I think it is appropriate, then I take examples from personal or my friends' experiences. In my opinion if someone is the mind then it means the person has succeeded to a certain extent in controlling our thinking. Another strategy used by people to boost their rating is by writing something on people they know on the site. The expectation is this person would give a response and give a positive rating even if the discussion does not merit one. i believe you do not belong to this group.

If I start a discussion based on a friend, I do not say their names, so just because they relate to the discussion, does not mean I wrote it about them, you know?

Yea usually i start a conversation with someone in mind or if i have something on my mind. I use this site to sort of clear my head if Im really having a tough issue with something. I figure someone will have some insight as to what I should do and there are plenty of people on here to voice their advice. pretty much all my postings are because of something or something on my mind. When it's too much to handle and I need some clarification, this is one of the spots i go to.

That is true, this place is great for advice. We are planning a trip soon and I keep saying to my husband tht I want to ask around on Mylot before we plan too much, because I might learn something about that place I don't know yet.

Sometimes, I do. But not always. I suppose it depends on what is the topic of discussion that I would like to begin.

No, I don't think I've ever done that before. I probably will now though because the thoughts planted in my head now. I'll try not to but can't promise that I won't do it. I look forward to hearing all my friends responses all the time regardless of the discussion.
