Do you prefer diamonds over other jewels?

When I got married, we exchanged wedding bands. I didn't get a diamond until I had been married about 21 years. I had always wanted one,but it wasn't the highest of priorities back then. Now I wouldn't go without it. In fact, I never take my rings off except to clean them, unless I've been in the hospital.
I remember Marilyn Monroe singing "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0FDGnAIWpk I've never thought of diamonds being that much of a friend, although I do like them. I suppose others may love them more. But I like pearls just as much, myself. Which jewel do you prefer? Are diamonds a necessity in your life?

Actually, if you watch for sales, you can get them reasonable. We shop for sales for everything! But, they are marked up 3 times. I used to work in a jewelry store and marked the jewelry for a long time. If we could buy it for the real price, we'd save lots. But it's marked up, so they can afford to put it on sale.

diamonds are expenive but if you know where to shop they aren't. If you go to a pawnshop and look there they usually have everythign for a third of the price. Though it might seem kind of weird, if money is the issue no one has to know where you bought it.

Oh, if I want a diamond, I want a diamond, not a fake. Mine is real and a 1 carat, but I didn't get it as an engagement ring before we married. My husband-to-be was in the Air Force and wasn't making that kind of money. I know lots of women won't wear a big real diamond because they are scared it might be stolen. I'd rather not have one if I'm going to have to worry about it being stolen. In fact, I never take mine off except to clean it.

I honestly don't wear much jewelry, just my ring. To be honest I don't even have a wedding band. My ring is technically an engagement ring. I didn't recieve it until we'd already been married for 6 months. Sometimes I tease him about the fact that I don't have an actual wedding ring. One day I'll get one, but the ring isn't as important as the marriage.
There are some jewels I like, such as topaz... I think that's it. I like the sparkly ones that look like diamonds but are pretty colors. But I'm not crazy about pearls or any of that. I like sparkly jewelry! But whenever I have owned jewelry I always forget to put it on.

I don't wear much jewelry, either. I have on my wedding rings and earrings that I keep on all the time. I have several gold necklaces I wear occasionally and a pearl necklace. I haven't worn it in a long time since I broke one of my earrings and have not had it fixed yet.

Diamonds are beautiful and amazing to look at, their my birthstone. Though they are not a priority when I do get one I treat it with special care. My mother gave me diamond earring as a a girl and I never take them off. My husband gave me my wedding and engagement ring with diamonds, so the hold a special meaning. I just love jewels period and have had variety throuh my lifetime. I have no preferencce to a particular jewel but cherish the meaning behind it.

I've had this diamond and several pearls. My daughter gave me a pearl ring and I had a black onyx ring that my husband bought me overseas. But both of them, along with some pearl drop earrings, got stolen along with my first wedding band when our house was broken into about 6 years ago.

I think diamonds are gorgeous. And they probably are my favourite jewel. I am not married, but when I do get married I would love to have a diamond ring. It's not something I would demand or be unhappy without, but I would definitely want one eventually. I guess I like the fact that they symbolise eternity as they never go bad.

Diamonds are very good for me. I am lucky when I wear them. I always try and wear diamonds for that reason.
Recently my hands were sticky and itchy so I took my rings off. I put them on a ledge then decided to move them to a safer place. I can't find them now and since then, all sorts of problems have befallen me.

yes Diamonds are that of cars to for men.
I prefer diamonds, but honestly I don't own any, besides a really really, tiny diamond ring - my wedding ring.
So much for saving, even though we saved up some money. But I never purchased another ring because we had more bills to pay and of course, my husband never agreed to it. He did not want to buy any wedding ring either, but he knew he had to get one.
I don't own a lot of jewelry so it does not matter, but if I had the money yes I prefer diamonds and brand name purses too.

While I enjoy many pretty things, jewels and whatnot, I can live without diamonds. Especially when I get into the rich depths of rubys and emeralds.
I am, however, like you. Diamonds are not a priority. As a result of this attitude, I have many diamonds now. Just little ones. Not much to look at. But, when I do the whole charity thing, for some reason, we raise more money with the appearance of wealth with diamonds, than without.
