myLot is a very nice and usually also a very polite community. I have seen many people thanking other mylotters for responding to their discussions. I have also done this. However, I read somewhere that we would not get paid for this. Is this true? Is saying "thank you" not allowed? Tell us your experience with saying "thanks."

Its not that its not allowed, but I think (from what I've understood) that we don't get any money for responding to comments that people leave on our topics. So in other owrds if I post this, and you reply to me on this, then u don't get anything for that post.
Most people still say their "thank you's" anyhow out of respect and politness, I know I do

You do get paid for making comments to your discussion -- or comments to anyone else's discussion.
But they don't want people to just go thru a list of responses and write thank you, 25 times, and nothing more. It says that will be deleted, so maybe doing that won't get any earning.
But if you have something to say, to keep the discussion going or enhance it, a comment on what someone's response was, that is allowed, and paid. It's like someone who answers a discussion with only "I don't know", over and over, and nothing more.
That is discouraged by mylot, too, because they want good quality discussions and they want us to keep the discussions going with a lively banter, not let them fall flat with just thank yous and I don't knows.

If you read the guidelines you will see that posting "thank you for your response" each time will not earn you any money, but you can do it if you want to.
The way to increase the value of your discussion is to comment on responses, say why you like what the person has said, whether you think they have made a good point, if they made you laugh or if you disagree but you value their opinion.
Commenting in this way will increase earnings from your discussions, but that does not mean you are paid for each comment you make. The guidelines make it clear the payment system is very complex and there is no way of knowing how it works.

So that is where I read it! No wonder it came to my mind!
I will have to try and do what you have advised more often. I think your advice is great and hope many people read it and earn from this. I think your advice is very helpful and true but many people do not know about this.
I am glad to here that someone finally agrees with me when I say the payment system here is complex and unclear and NOT a cent per response because I have been reading a lot of that stuff lately. Thank you for confirming my thoughts as I will try and go back to those discussions and link it to this one.
Thanks for the helpful advice and informative response.

Saying "Thank you" alone is not aloowed under the guidleines, no. But I personally do say thank you to each and every person that responds to my discussions and will continue to do so. The difference though is that I don't just say these words alone. I will acknowledge what they have said, make my own comments in regards to what they have said; and THEN say thanks. Is this site not all about engaging each other? By doing this, we have a good chance of having even further exchanges between us and the person who responded and that's what it's all about!
Whether we earn for that or not is neither here nor there for me and it is all about showing gratitiude and creating further activity within my discussion. The more activity I generate, then the more exposure my discussion will get! Anyone that posts discussions and NEVER replies to anyone is not really embracing the essence of what mylot is about as far as I am concerned and they are only after quantity and not quality. The interesting reality though is that they will actually earn LESS by being this way! Quality and effort will always earn more than just playing the numbers game.

I am happy to see that you have already worked out how conducting yourself this way can be of benefit. As you have said yourself, your earnings HAVE improved as a result, which to me is undeniable proof that quality over quantity reigns supreme all day long! I promise you that you will increasingly find your earnings and overall time on mylot becoming more and more productive if you continue to do what you are doing.

That is some good advice and a true statement. "You earn more when you know what you are doing." I like that. I think I will make it my motto on my profile page! Thanks a lot for sharing this very useful information with me.
I hope I find more ways to increase my earnings as I have only $2.25 to reach the $10 minimum payout! Thanks for helping me reach my goal!

I agree that if you do not reply to responses to your discussions, it defeats the whole purpose of mylot. I used to not do this but recently have been doing this more and more and I think it is better for me. I do not know if it increased my earnings but I have been earning a lot lately.
I also agree that more activity means more exposure which means more responses and possibly better earnings. I started to reply to responses after some mylotters told me that it would put my discussion at the top of my friends' "Discussions my friends started" sortie. Thanks for your suggestions and ideas and I will try to do what you do more.

Hello snam23,
As for my opinion, I do think that word to be repeatedly used is discouraged, but they didn't state that it is not allowed. They have already given us a way to thank those who respond to our discussions, that is through giving a rate. Maybe we can say thank you but we have to be detailed as to why we give our thanks to them, making our post more significant. They have us encourage to reply back those who give comments our discussion, that is to make it going. But with a simple thank you and no explanation as to why, don't give the commentators any reason to post back.

I agree with your opinion and hope it is allowed as I think it is a good way of keeping the site polite and friendly. The thing with rating is that you do not know who rated you positively or negatively so I think it is better to reply to the discussion. Thank you for explaining your reasons for your opinions. Happy mylotting!

It is not that you are not allowed to say thank you to people. It is a part of politeness, especially when someone responded to your discussion. What is not allowed is the one line post, which is not paid, when you just say thanks meaninglessly. Why don't you try to say something like: "I think it is indeed a good idea. I would try that, thank you. You're really helping. Happy myLotting" not only that it would be friendlier, but I think the responder would feel more appreciated knowing that you have more positive feedback than just a line of thank you

Yes, I agree it is out of politeness than it is out of wanting to post again or earn money. I will have to try that more often as I think it is a great idea and I do not mean to sound sarcastic. I think it could make a real difference if the responder feels appreciated. I really will try to do that more often. Thank you for the awesome suggestion and have a great day!

Actually, "You're welcome" is also unecessary action to be made in postings like this :) but having a really great compliment and a very polite thank you message from you, I think I should say thanks and you're welcome. Now I feel really appreciated by you're really reading and responding to my response :). Have a nice day, and happy MyLotting :)

Honestly i dont know about it, But i do always say that words before in a single line and it get deleted. I think it is about the quantity of your post. Because when i put a little effort to make my comment long atleast 3 to 5 lines and say that word in the last line of it, it doesnt deleted. And i've seen so many members here that saying that words in their comment and I think it is good to say that words as a sign of gratitude and being polite to those who take time in responding the discussion.

That is interesting to hear. I will have to make sure that my posts are at least 3 lines long as many mylotters have suggested.
I agree with you when you say it is good to say thank you because it is being polite and I think it keeps mylot as friendly as it is.
Thank you for responding with your great ideas, advice, and thoughts.

I think that is the general view shared by most mylotters. I have been trying very hard to make my thank you responses more than one line and I think with the help of everyone who responded to this discussion, I have been doing extremely well. Thank you for the advice as I will be sure to take it!

You just do not get paid for commenting on your own discussions. But you can respond and say thank you etc. That is just out of politeness and respect.

Its really not allowed if you would only be replying with "thank you", I think that is what the rules meant. Its really hard not to thank people but we have to do it to show our gratitude and that we appreciate their response. When i reply to a commen i always thank the person because it is my way of showing gratitude. But i have never replies with only a thank you in my post because i always see to it that i make posts not less than 2 lines at least.

hi
"thank you" in most of mylotter's posts are not for their paid response because no one here is sure of if our posts are being paid for. what i mean is no body among us is sure that our posts paid more rather than starting a discussion. the thank you here is just a way of appreciating other mylotters for starting a very interesting topic like you.
be blessed

Not being paid for saying "thank you" is my conclusion from this discussion. I also agree with you that no one really knows how mylot calculates your earnings. I feel like mylotters deserve the thank you because they are so nice and helpful. So thank you for responding and sharing your thoughts with us!

I think many members have realized this or just do not know it but still decide to say thanks. For example, I am currently replying back to all the responses I got on my discussion like this one. I agree thanks should not disappear and hope mylot will always stay so polite. Thanks for responding.
