sorry if it seems like a silly question... but i just don't know what it means to have a star with a corresponding number attached to your name... what do they mean? how about the colors, do they mean anything, too? I'd love to know and hear from you... thanks...

It means your rating here which is cumulated by your post quality.
every member here gets a star with number in when their post number reaches 100,but no. and colour are different, which means you have different rating due to your past work on mylot.
how others rate you depends how they think of your post qulity.
have you seen the '+' '-' marks below everyone's post, when they have respoded to your discussions, you have the right to rate them positively negatively, all the cumulated ratings finally lead to our rating here.that's also why our ratings are up and down everytime.

Good thing you asked that question.
The number beside our username is the star rating as they call it. It shows the myLot reputation we have. The number is from one to ten with ten being the highest. It should start by the time you reach a hundred number of posts.
You can more explanations about star rating at the FAQs pages.
Kingly visit this page: http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq11.aspx

Stars denote the quality of the posts.
It is not how much we post but whether is relevant and to the point or not.
The six, seven, eight, nine and ten rating star denotes the gradation of the same topquality of the posts.
The number in blue within the encircled bracket denotes the number of discussions to which you have posted as areply.
