I have never been to a place where this was happening, so I don't know if I would be able to recognize it or not. I don't agree with it unless it is a lip-synching contest. They are made for that purpose and can be very entertaining, but its not professional. If people are not doing the real thing, then they shouldn't be performing. Seeing a live performer always makes me love their music more (except one artist because he seems more into it when its on CD than in real life. He seemed bored and reluctant to be there.) I can see most of them loving what they do, and it makes me proud to be a fan.

When that little girl at the Olympics fake sung because the one whose voice they used wasn't pretty enough, my husband immediately said that she is lip-syncing because her mouth didn't move in a timely manner to the song and movements. He has a good eye for that. Now we thought it was because they wanted to make sure it came out right. After all she is so young, nerves could have gotten the better of her. I can understand the need for lip-syncing, if it otherwise wouldn't be projected right like when there is a lot of acrobatics involved and stuff. But if they pretend it's their voice and song and playing whatever instrument, when it is indeed another person, that's wrong.

I presume that you are talking about China. I find it odd that they should propose that law after the fiasco of the Olympics song where it was reported that the singer of the song was not allowed to appear because she wasn't pretty enough so they made a girl (who couldn't sing) mime to the song. Perhaps, however, the proposal is in response to the criticism. I am not completely against miming in live shows. The presentation is sometimes more important than whether someone is capable, for example, of performing a strenuous acrobatic routine at the same time as singing or playing an instrument well. I think, on the whole, that your Ministry of Culture is being far too dictatorial by imposing stiff penalties ... but this is China, of course, where all sorts of freedoms are denied.
