If you shop on Black Friday...

Do you only shop for Christmas gifts, or do you also look for bargains for items you need?
I shop for gifts as well as things I need for myself, my home and my family. I can't pass up an opportunity to buy a new toaster at 70% off if we need one, even if it means going out when it is crowded. I go shopping anyway, so why not?
I ask this because last year I was standing in line waiting to purchase a toaster for my family- not a gift, just because we needed it and it was a great deal. While I was waiting, I heard a couple of girls talking who were in line behind me. One of them was saying 'Can you believe some people go out today just to shop? They're not even buying Christmas presents, so why are they here? I would never go out on Black Friday if I wasn't buying presents.'
Her comments really annoyed me for a few reasons. One because, who cares who I am buying for? Is it against the law to buy for yourself on Black Friday?
Two, I don't think the retailers care who anyone is buying for, they're just glad people are there spending money.
And three, if she was so miserable to be out shopping, why did she go? It's not as if it is necessary to do your holiday shopping on Black Friday. I like to go to get in the holiday mood, hear the Christmas music, kick off the season. It bugs me to hear people complain about it, especially so loudly.
Your thoughts?

I dont usually buy myself things, since im on a limited budget around christmas. However I dont think that it is a crime to buy yourself something nice on black friday. Its your money and like you said the stores dont care who their items are for, just that they are selling them, esp now that the economy is so bad. Im hoping that for that reason this black friday will have some of the lowest prices, since stores really need to sell things to stay in business. Well anyway, good luck with the deals, and buy yourself something nice. Dont listen to what snotty girls have to say.

I am also on a tight budget, not just at Christmas, but pretty much most of the time. That's why I like to take advantage of the sales when they come. Work clothes for my husband are dirt cheap and we need those, so I save money and stock up when they are on sale.
I try not to listen, but sometimes it's hard not to.

When we go shopping we shop for gifts and to stock up on things that we could use or need in the future. We did find some toaster overs and other things are really cheap prices last year. That was nice especially since I was able to use them while at college. We did buy some gifts though. It's nice being able to shop for what we need at steep discounts and buy gifts are deep discounts too. It really helps.

Sure, I like buying gifts, too. I love to go on Black Friday because I can get more for my money. In my extended family, we set a spending limit, and the sales allow me to give more for the same amount.
