Do you ever suffer "Ice cream Headache"?

A lot of people do! Fortunately, it only lasts about 30 seconds. When something cold touches the roof of your mouth on a hot day, it triggers a cold headache. The cause is a dilation of blood vessels in the head. The dilation might be caused by the nerve center located above the roof of your mouth. Therefore, the easy way to avoid brain freeze would be keep cold things away from the roof of your mouth!

Hi. tortoise29vn. Welcome to myLot! I don't think that I have ever suffered an "Ice Cream Headache" before. I love ice cream and I would think that the coolness of the ice cream will relieve my headache.

I've seen a talk show about this. The doctor said the easiest way to avoid getting the headache after eating cold freezing ice cream is to get your tongue to touch the roof of your mouth right after you eat them. Don't know if it works or not since I don't get any head ache after eating ice cream.

I do get them but not just from an ice cream cone....more like a shake or one of the cold drinks from panera bakery or other coffee shop. I just run my tongue over the roof of my mouth and it almost instantly goes away.

Yes when you take faster icecream can cause you headache and that is because cold meets your warm body. So when you are going to eat an icecream you have to eat it slowly and have gap for each scoop.

I do not usually get a ice cream headache from eating ice cream. I will usually get a ice cream headache if I am drinking a milk shake. Drinking a milk shake gives me a head ache more so than eating the ice cream. I think by drinking the milk shake it is a more constant flow of the ice cream as opposed to spooning it in your mouth or licking it from a cone.
