Do you use to have live tree or artificial one?

For me it is the smell of the live Christmas tree is one of the things which make me the Christmas mood. But for few last years we sometimes switch from live tree to artificial. I like live trees more but I do not want them to suffer, so sometimes I just choose artificial one. I know there are gardens with trees which only purpose is to become Christmas trees but despite of that I feel bad sometimes because of their sad destiny. So what about you myFriends? Do you prefer live tree? Or you use to have artificial one? Is the Christmas mood for you the same no matter what kind of tree you have?

Hi dieorfly! We never get the live Christmas tree, we normally buy artificial ones and use it again the next year. And yes my Christmas mood is the same even we use artificial one. But this coming Christmas my mood wont be the same because I'm in a country that most of the people doesn't celebrate Christmas, I haven't even seen any Christmas decoration that I can buy here. Thanks!

We've used an artificial tree for several years now. I think we had a real tree once or twice when I was a child but we hated the clean up. We hated finding pine needles for months after the tree was gone and we hated spending all that money for a tree so we ended up buying artificial trees and we've stuck with them ever since. It's just safer, it's better for the environment and it's more costly.

When we grew up we always had a live tree. Of course back then my grandparents had a neighbor that grew pine trees we would get one for cheap from them. As an adult my husband and I did live trees for a few years but the last few we've used an artificial one that we bought on clearance. It's a pretty nice pre-lit tree. I miss having a real tree but they keep charging more and more each year for them. Plus there is the mess afterward too. My husband used to gripe and moan pretty good about having to clean up the needles. The kids have never had a live tree though so I think we'll start doing it again sometime.

I think the kind should have live tree, maybe when they get older it is not that important but when they are young I think the atmosphere of Christmas is different with real tree.

In my country... since real christmas trees are not really available... we make do with the articifial ones... and most families would decorate the trees in their garden or backyard with christmas lights... i only see real christmas trees being decorated in homes when i watch movies about christmas...

I think that most people like a live Christmas tree but it's better when we buy an artificial one, because in this way we preserve the Mother Nature. Just think about what would happen if all Christians in the world decide to buy a live tree- so many trees will be forever lost. My family always buys an artificial Christmas tree and i think that this is the right thing to do. happy mylotting

I will disagree with you at least in Canada and to a large part the United States we have Christmas tree farms where trees are grown on marginal land strictly for the Christmas tree market. Wild trees are not used as their quality is variable and there is a difficulty harvesting. When the trees are finished after Christmas they are collected and ground up to be used as mulch and compost. Thus it is all recycled and green. Artificial trees on the other hand are mad of plastic, a petroleum product, which after a few years when it becomes tatty, it is discarded and the only thing you can do with it is to throw it into the landfill where it will sit for a thousand years. Not very environmentally friendly.

I really love a live tree. When we were little, my father used to go out on Christmas Eve and cut a six foot long bough off one of our yew trees and that was our Christmas tree. It was not exactly the traditional shape but was all the more exciting to decorate because of that. One bough off a tree didn't hurt the tree (and it probably needed pruning, anyway). Until recently I have always tried to get a tree with roots so that it could be planted out later. Sometimes they survived, sometimes they didn't. The last house I owned had no fewer than 7 enormous Norway Spruces in the garden. It was really over-run with Christmas trees that the previous owner had obviously planted year on year! That was when I first thought that a false tree might not be a bad idea. It was about that time that quite realistic false trees were just becoming available and I finally succumbed and bought one. I think that it has now seen six or seven Christmases and is none the worse for it. We do decorate and put lights on a little tree we have in the garden now. The decorations are somewhat odd: bags of nuts and fat balls and seed cookies in the shape of stars. That's Christmas for the birds and beasties and they seem to enjoy it. Indoors, the tree hides small gifts in its branches, usually there is something "from the Tree" for everyone who visits - even the carol singers and the neighbours who call by with a card or a gift.

We use an artificial tree not a live tree. I am against the use of a live tree since it does not respect the environment. An artificial tree can be used year after year while live trees are mostly thrown away after Christmas.

I have a fake artificial 6ft white Christmas tree and I love it!..LOL I would love to buy a larger one or a large pink or baby blue fake Christmas tree .Artificial tree's are safer then real tree's and you can use them year after year.Since mine is white I like to sting blue lights on it, but sometimes I mix blue and white lights on the tree and it makes the tree a bit brighter. It looks like a winter Christmas tree then more of a traditional tree.

Before we used live trees for christmas trees. But now, we are using artificial ones. Actually it's mad of plastic and we recycle it every year. It does save money since we can use it every Christmas season. Though I think live tree is better. But considering the situation right now, it is much better to have such artificial one that you can recycle every season. It is practical and economical on the financial aspect.

We have an artificial tree indoors as our house gets quite hot sometimes nad the pine leaves drop. Outside the playroom window we will have a real tree with some lights on it, it will look good for the children

In this country we don't have much live pine trees that's why we use artificial ones. Yes it's true that it might not be good to use a live tree as a Christmas tree because it will die after the Christmas season is over. However using an artificial tree may bring to environmental issues in terms of it adds up to trash and it is of plastic. I think no matter what kind of tree you have as long as you enjoy the season then it would be good.

When I was a kid we always had an artifical tree, but since I got married we have always had a real tree. I really do prefer the real trees. They just seem to make it seem more like christmas. I do not feel bad that we have used a real tree because I buy them from the tree lots where they are already cut down.

I would be satisfied with both trees. If i could have a real life tree i would because of the smell and the livelyness of christmas trees. Now i would also get a fake tree because you can keep it for a long time and always put it up with decorations and it will look brand new.

I love real trees but I have a fake one its cheaper and easier than a real one. and the kids like helping me to put it up and take it down. And no pine needles everywhere!

Our family when I was really small my father made an artificial tree. They did not have artificial trees at that time so he was ahead of his time. When we came to Canada we started having a natural tree and did so for many years. Just the last few years as my health has deteriorated I have had no tree because of the work involved and the price of trees have gone way up like everything else. We still decorate a little but even the price of electricity for the Christmas lights means I do not use them either, and most people do not. I much prefer to put the moneys toward food and other decorations now.
