I've been noticing the increase of people buying coffee in the past couple of years. It seems like now most people couldn't get through their day without a cup of coffee. My question is would you rather get your coffee from a local coffee shop or a big organization coffee shop like Starbucks?

Hey jambi, awesome topic! As far as more people purchasing coffee, blame it on the economic slump. Money is tight, layoffs everywhere, banks giving out less money, etc. - people are putting a tighter watch on their money and are lessening the Starbucks trips every morning, some even losing their Starbucks habit completely! Saw a news article that backed this claim up, and that more people are getting their morning cup at home, brewing it themselves. Plus, for some reason, it seems just to be a daily habit of many people to drink it in the morning. I know that when I wake up, I just make it by habit. When I come to work, I make a whole pitcher and have it with me throughout the day... And if I prefer coffee from a local coffee shop, or a Starbucks...eh, it varies. With your local coffee shop, you are supporting local entrepreneurs and your local small business, and you also get that "local" service that is sometimes better than the customer service at Starbucks, I've noticed. But at Starbucks, sometimes you have more options - such as their credit card that gives you benefits and rewards. Also, you might get specialty papers, (that I read, anyway) such as the WSJ or NY Times. Whatever your preference, just get your caffeine fix! :)

I see what you mean and thanks for liking my topic. In my town there's the corporation coffee places and then there's Brothers Coffee where I like to hang out. Brother's has such a great environment that you can't help but hang out there. Everyone at Brother's is cheerful and happy and love to spread the happiness to whoever they come in contact with. Some of the regulars I see in that place just put a smile on my face because I get to see them that day. Local coffee shops in my book are much better then those fake commercialized businesses. They just don't have the environment of a real coffee shop.

I love the taste of the coffee from any established coffee shop since it is not commercialized like those instant coffee you can buy from the stores. in the coffee shop, you can choose to have it sweetened or not since the coffee they will serve is pure coffee with no sugar yet.

I'm talking like a locally ran coffee shop where everything inside the store isn't over commercialized and fake. I mean a coffee shop where you can go in and be greeted by other regulars that are sincere and great people to be around.

I am not a coffee person. In fact, I hate coffees. My parents like coffee but they prefer to drink coffee from a local coffee shop. They think that the coffee in Starbucks is overhyped and overpriced too.

Hi there. Well, for me, coffee is coffee regardless what form it takes so I'm not that picky. Most people would prefer getting their coffee from Starbucks or other big name coffee shops since it has become quite fashionable; would actually like to bee seen hanging out in such coffee shops. As for me, I really love coffee and couldn't survive a day without it so it doesn't really matter where it comes from as long as it's brewed.

I would definitely get my coffee from Starbucks if I know I'm going to spend on it anyway. I would prefer to spend a little more than I have to if I'm sure that the quality I'm getting in return is superb. It just so happens that I have tried other "local coffee shops" in the area and none of them are worth it. I'm better of mixing up a three in one for myself than buying from them. Starbucks on the other hand gives good service, good food and the best coffee frappucinos on the planet :) Thanks for the response on my discussion :)

I love drinking coffee and I do it almost everyday. It doesn't matter to me if it is local or the big one as long as it has good taste. Coffee also wake up my senses especially if I lack sleep.

I would rather get it from my house. I know how to make my coffe just the way I like it and it doesn't cost me four bucks a cup either!

Over here, besides Starbucks and other coffee franchises, we have local coffee cafes that offer great coffee and the ambience is just as good - air conditioned, good food and WiFi! And the prices are lower! So we mostly get our coffees from these places.

Oh my gawd. I friggin LOVE Starbucks... but thats not to say I dont like other coffee as well. I have tasted plenty of good coffees from local coffee shops... I guess I really like Starbucks because of the array of flavors and ways to modify it. It adds a kick, but that doesnt mean I HAVE to drink it all the time. I need coffee everyday, Im addicted... but I'm content with local coffee shops or making it at home.
