Why just as a mother?
As a father I am also happy at all these times! Children need both parents - the question should be asked of ALL parents not just mothers!
My son gets better every day - from 6 weeks when he first smiled to 13 years when he now argues with me and beats me in a debate - he gets more wonderful every day.

Yes they are all important - for different reasons at different times, we need all of those people.
