Steamed food is very healthy. I have a steamer too, i normally use it to steam corn, rice, bun, tofu, eggs, meat, and fish. Actually you can use steamer to make alot of dishes. The eggs, meat, fish taste nice if you know to mix with the other ingredients and sources. For example, Fish- 1.any fish that is suitable to steam, wash it properly, move away the scales. 2.Soak the dried mushrooms, when they become soft, cut into slices. 3.Chop tomato and ginger (to get rid of the fishy smell) into slices. 4.You can prepare some small pieces of tofu too. 5.Ok now, prepare a plate, put some soya sauce on the plate, then put all the ingredients on the plate. Steam for around 30 minutes until the fish is cooked.

lulumartin, An additional tip here for you: try and add 2 teaspoons of Chinese sesame oil to the steam and see if you like the end results. Have a nice day.

Hi, thanks for the tips. I have never tried sesame oil for steamed fish. I will try next time. :-) I like the sesame oil taste, i always use it for noodle soup or chicken.

If you get one, make sure it has a rice basket. I find I use mine for rice more often than vegies. But fresh vegetables turn out great in it. My husband had one before we were married and he told me he'd do pasta in his as well.

I think you should if you would like to eat healthier, though the food will taste a bit more natural. Also, overcooking and burning foods is easily avoided when you steam it. Because you're steaming the foods rather than boiling, less nutrients will be lost. I think vegetables are the main one, corn, etc. You can steam rice, buns (like the asians) and some frozen foods. Meat rarely, but good luck finding recipes!
