Does anesthesia makes you forgetful?

When I was a three-year-old kid,I have gone into a major operation to have my tendons released for my feet to be corrected due to cerebral palsy.(I had a clubbed feet) Obviously, I was given a general anesthesia. Later in my life, I noticed my self being very forgetful. There's this one instance that my mom gave me my grandmother's monthly pension for me to keep it. When she's asking about it, I can't rally remember where I a placed it! It took me three long days for me to remember where I had put it. Does having general anesthesia for 25 years now, has to do with it? Because a lot of people tell that my being forgetful is due to having it. Is this true? Please share your vies on this. Happy myLotting and Godspeed....

i think so. when my wife gave birth it was under C-section. from that day on she always forgets something that sometimes she even cries out of frustrations because she can not remember what was that or where she puts something. sometimes she even forget were she left her purse. i reallt pity her when she gets frustrated on remembering something but before that she was not like that

Yes anesthesia does make me forgetful sometimes. There are times that I forget the terms or word I'm going to say with my colleagues and sometimes I even forget where I place my things or what I'm doing in a certain place at home or in the office knowing that I go there to get or do something and yet I can't figure it out.

hello, its my first time here and couldnt believe what am i researching.. im just beginning to worry about ' always being forgetful' because u might thought its only a minor thing but it can be a major problem especially in WORK and social life.. sometimes, i forget the right WORDS to express as what one person revealed as her experience, same as with me… Before i was alert and had a good retentive memory and after i had a C-section just one time under epidural anaesthesia..i was also thinkin i was received a general one because i slept after i saw my baby out…going back, this has been troubling me because it has been affecting my performance at work and my colleagues sometimes react in a way u felt awful after u cant say the right word because as if you just ran out of words in a short time…they would always think i have problems but they didnt know behind those, was my being forgetful…im really scared coz im in the healthcare field….:'(

I doubt it but ask your doctor he is the medical specialist or look it up on the net and do your own research.

Hi Llonorra22!!!I don't think so.Because anesthesia you have recieved at that time may be the best available anesthesia of that time.(doctors use the best one only!!)
There are many different types of anesthesia some of them are inhalational and some other are intravenous.
I hope your forgetfulness is not because of anesthesia, but may have some other reason. And in general many normal people forget things and even i forget things some times.
So,don't worry about your forgetfulness!!!!

Hello, nicedude! If my memory serves me right, I think they gave me an inhalational kind of anesthesia. (correct me if I"m wrong) Because my mom told me that doctor's instructed me to blow a balloon. And when I blew it, I fell asleep and the operation took place.Happy posting! Godspeed...
