What exactly are you doing when you change the water? Are you doing a partial water change or replacing all of it? And you said you added salt.. is it saltwater or freshwater?

Ok, you really only need to do a partial water change when cleaning your aquarium. Getting it totally clean can actually be harmful to the fish. Tanks will naturally develop beneficial bacteria in them that is necessary to the fish so you want to leave that as much as you can. What I do is change only 20% of the water every couple of weeks, change the filter, and add a bacteria supplement and water conditioner. I stopped using salt in my tank when I added plants and snails (salt is harmful to them) but when I did, it was a teaspoon per 10 gallons. Try this and see if it works.

adding a little crystallized salt to the tank after changing the water will solve this problem. www.tropicalfishes.co.cc

Yes you need to change only 10 to 20% or the water weekly. The smaller but more often the water changes the less the difference it will be to the fish. If you change the pH, temp and other things too much you will stress your fish. If you do not know what you are treating then using meds might cause more harm than it cures. After all does you doctor just give you an antibiotic when you are sick or ado they check to find out what you are sick from? When you do a water change make sure to vacuum the gravel to get rid of uneaten foods and excrement that is given off by your fish. After all they do not have a toilet in the tank that works so the only way to "flush" the toilet is to do a water change. If it is a fresh water tank you can use this discarded water to water your house or garden plants.
