Hello MyLotter, as this year is very challenging for us with financial crisis and recession fears everywhere around the corner, many people try to save money to get through this phase more smoothly.
When we think now about gifts for birthdays or the special days during the year like christmas, valentine's day, eastern, mother's day i think now to buy many things online because for me it's less time-and energy-wasting (driving, looking for car parking, walking through overfilled shops, visiting different shops for different types of gifts).
In the internet you can go to Amazon, ebay and some price comparision web pages to makes some bargains and most of the things are found in "one shop".
The delivery is fast, sometimes they already packed it into the gift paper, so that you have only to write the card.
For some persons i thought to buy just some calenders and put some pictures in it and additional some home-made cookies.
That will be my handmade presents for the year 2008:-)
Where do you buy your gifts -online or in shops- or are they self-made?
Which gifts do you buy/make?
Happy myLotting and stress-free christmas shopping wishes you cornyman!

I prefer to buy my gifts in shop or to fabricate them myself because my girlfriend likes when I fabricate gifts myself for her

Hello excellence7,
i hope i could be also so good in doing the things on my own. But most of the time i'm to lazy to do it, so i will just go shopping online and look which new things are available which are extraordinary presents.
Have a great time in myLot!

A lot of woman like crafts handmade items. A good place to shop for that is a farmers market Christmas sales. I bought some new items for my daughter from ebay but you have to be very careful and sometimes no matter how careful you are you just get took to the cleaners. Always try to buy from someone with a 100% feedback. Less likely to be dishonest and risk a neg. feedback. Good Luck.

Hello Grandmaof2,
yes, we have also this type of christmas sales in Germany. There are more the older people who buy and sell this handmade products. Mostly they are expensive, too (starting from 15 to 20 US-$).
My mom for example watches there usually just for some new ideas and makes it then herself :-)
Ebay is a good place to shop when we take care of the reputation of the seller, that's right. So far i had luck that everything was ok.
Have a good time in the farmers market wishes cornyman!

Some are bought in local shops and some are self-made. The self-made ones are my quilts that I make and the rest come from local shops. I have bought a few gifts online in the past but mostly stuff that was really hard to find.

Good afternoon twoey68,
my mum is also good in doing self-made things but i'm not that patient, only on the computer there i can sit and take my time to make calenders and picture-poster for them :-)
I'm more that kind of why not using the computer for all these things when i have one, instead of going outside (winter, cold, snow, icy). I just miss the christmas songs in the shops but anything else you can get from the internet. That's just my way of preparing for Christmas :-)
Merry Christmas!

Hi cornyman,
I haven't many presents to get as there are no children around me, so its only eight presents to get and I have already bought two, to me I would like to go early to the shops and don't need transport as I can walk it into town and I will just go to two shops to get my presents, beside I love the Christmasey feeling that goes with Christmas shopping. Merry Christmas to you. xx

Hello tamarafireheart,
you're right in that kind of way when you talk about the christmas feeling... the songs... the decoration in the shops... the smell of the food/cookies.
You're a lucky one as your shops are all near by. Usually i have to drive more than 10 km to get to the big shopping centers and the christmas market.
Wish you nice pre-christmas feelings until the big day is coming!

I am not much gifted to handicraft making even I love to make one of it. So I prefer to buy on the store and it is fine with me because we are near to all the malls here in our place. I can select the best that I can which fitted to the person i prefer to give gifts. And at the same time I cam make fun with my kids.

Hello mods,
yes, i agree with you for some handcraft making you have to be gifted. I only can make calenders on the computer or some other card composing things.
But when the time is too short again, i'll buy the things simply online and put a small card on top of the gift.
Merry christmas!

No matter the year is a tough one with a lot of financial crisis... people around u shud nt lose their values...... No, i m not at all saying that gifting something increases their value and not gifting reduces the same... but still..I want to gift something to somebody and not gifting coz of money... THIS REALLY SOUNDS LIKE PISSING OFF...
and for me money has neva been an account fr gifts.... not coz I am a king;s son.. but I always prefer making gifts for my loved ones!!! I believe the emotions and love that a self made card can express is more worthy than a $10 spent on the same... to express your love affection or gratitude at times... u never need money... DO YOU?

I make all my cards by hand. They are so much nicer and give a more personalised touch.
Unfortunately that's about the limit of my creative talents.
When it comes to gifts I tend to shop around.
Last christmas I bought alot online.
If you have the time to look you can find some really unique items at very little cost.

Usually I buy them in store. Actually when I need to buy a gift for friends, I would spend quite a considerable amount of time in doing research online to see where is the cheapest or the review to make sure the gift wouldn't be a waste!

Hi Cornyman, When it is time to buy a gift, I usually go online and shop through a program which gives me a % cash back rebate deposited directly into my paypal account and it has 200+ major retail outlets including ebay. I get discounts and many times free shipping plus I get cash back, I save money and earn at the same time.
There are other times when I make a homemade gift or home baked gifts. I like to make scrapbooks or photo albums and frames and give them. Many really like the homemade touch and they love the photos for memories. It is always great fun for all involved. I may make a pie in a really nice pie plate as a gift and they keep the pie plate too. Many times when I bake a gift, the container it is in is the gift as well.

I am not a very good product maker, be it food, decoration, etc..., so I usually buy my gifts from our local stores. But to put personal touch, I wrap and design my gifts. It's really a little bit tiresome and time consuming to do all the shopping and gift wrapping but it's worth it because I am sure I am buying the exact product I want to give and those who receive gifts are happy that they are receiving a uniquely wrapped present.

hello cornyman,
i prefer purchasing gift from the shop because i don't have time spare for online browsing and waiting for days for the voucher .it is easy to get the gift through shop where one need not have spend days on purchasing the gift.moreover i could change the gift even though it is purchased

I like to buy books in Amazon. But to daily life staffs, Taobao in China here is the best choice. I can get a big discount there. For instance, I can get my favourtie Adidas shoes at a price of about $60. And you can get almost all you want there.
