History helps us understand changes and how the society we live in came to be. Any time we want to know why something happened, such as a war in the Middle East or the Balkans, a shift in political party dominance in the American congress, and a major change in the teenagers' violence, we have to look for factors which took shape earlier. Thus, history makes so much sense though history is yersterday or something! So, do you pay attention to history?

I would agree with what you say totally. One important aspect of history is seeing things through the eyes of people who lived in the past. their view on life, politics, religion etc. History is a story really and we can tell alot from the past and figure out where we are going. A teacher of mine once said that if you dont know your history your bound to repeat past mistakes(maybe thats a famous quote)Its sad that the interest in history is waining in the world but one good thing from that is a shift in the focus of historians to social history. we know alot more about how people lived in different time periods because of this.

Hi, I hated history in school but after I found it to be rather interesting. I'm from England but married to a Japanese guy and living in Japan. I wanted our kids to know English history as well as Japanese history. So the past few years I have been teaching them and learning a lot myself. I have spent the past couple of months talking to my 5th grader about the Victorian Age in England. We are now looking at the circumstances that lead to the First World War. World history is something we can learn from but also our personal history. I keep a journal and an amazed and rather upset at how many times I make the same or similar mistakes!! I should learn shouldn't I? jacks
