Firefox or Internet Explorer?

Which one is better, in your opinion? I'm so confused!
My son constantly tells me I need to get Firefox while my husband says no way! Stick with IE.
PLEASE tell me what you have and why. What is the difference between the two? How would I benefit if I switched to Firefox? How would I benefit by sticking with IE?
If you tell me about "add-ons' please explain them to me because I know absolutely nothing about this feature.
I need to make an intelligent decision and explain to either my son or hubby why I chose the one I use so I can put an end to this once and for all. Thanks so much!

Listen to your son. IE has been trying to catch up and copy Firefox for years now, and IE is still not safe! I use add ons, but they are not necessary for superior performance, just nifty to have:) There is NO benefit in sticking with IE. I can't understand why your husband says IE, when it is a software program (full of backdoors and holes)put out by money hungry grubbers and Firefox is a worldwide public domain software package that is tweaked and perfected by millions of "users".
(who programs the vcr so it doesn't blink 12:00...I bet the kid, right?)

Hahahahaha! Yes, it's the kid! He's definitely a computer geek.
My hubby is a geek, too, but not necessarily a computer geek. He just likes electronic things and studied electronics in college. My son loves anything to do with computers. He was fixing my computers ever since he was around 14 years old. He was BORN with the geek gene.
Okay, one for Firefox. It looks like it's definitely better. Thanks for your opinion and information!
I found another post here about the same thing and I want to apologize to theembittered because I did not see your post until AFTER I had posted this. Please forgive me!

I switched from Internet Explorer to Firefox years ago when I was having so many problems with them. I have both on my computer in order to check my blog in each when I have a problem. I guess it's really up to you to decide which you want to use. I just like Firefox better, so I agree with your son. You could download Firefox and just satisfy them both. Then you could decide for yourself which you like best.

I would go with with your son. I have always found firefox better than IE. With so many options its definitely is! I like the restore all tabs feature. It has actually saved me from losing long writing data after a server failure.

IE is more prone to virus since it is more common and so they are writen for it. Foxfire has more protections built in....
Up to you. I use IE because its the one that comes with AOL. When/if I get a new computer, I'll access my aol thru online and use foxfire I guess.

Firefox is basically a totally user customizable browser. Users can download themes to chance the appearance of the browser and download extensions that add or modify features in the FireFox. As well as providing total user expansion, FireFox has a bunch of great features that come in the package that you just can't find with IE. Here's a few reasons why you should make the switch:
1. Great download manager - one of the things I hate most about IE is that every time I try downloading something, I have to choose where to save it and then I have to manage a deperate window for each download. Not with FireFox. The FF download manager manages all your downloads in a single window. You can pause and resume downloads at any time as well as specify a default download folder. Not to mention it's just faster.
2. Customizable toolbars - with FF, you can customize the layout of your address and toolbars. Unlike IE, FF allows you to move your address and search boxes around which saves space and makes the browser much more streamline.
3. Find function and pop-up blocker - another thing FF has on IE is their find function. The FireFox find feature stays open while you surf from page to page, automatically highlighting what you want to find. No more annoying boxes and repetitively hitting Ctrl F.
4. Probably my final and biggest point: extendability. Sure FireFox comes with great features, but every user is different and so should be their browser. With thousands of extensions available and more being developed every day, there is something for everyone with FireFox.

For you, Zezlol, I want to say an extra thanks! You're really gone into detail to explain Firefox to me and I really appreciate it! You actually make it sound easy! Thanks for taking the time to go into such detail for me.

In my opinion firefox is better. I use both. I worked at presidium learning ( a tech support company for 450+ schools nation wide, some even internationally). I also worked for radio shack. Some programs work better with firefox, while others work better with internet explorer. Some web pages won't load in one but they will in the other. My boyfriend also prefers firefox. I would recommend trying it, you might like it better, or you might not. I say go with whatever works best for you.

Lately IE has tried to copy certain features of Firefox. It has introduced new features such as tabbed browsing. However I still prefer Firefox and I do think that it is much faster than IE. It is much safer and detects spyware much more than IE does.

Since I use Firefox, I found it's better than IE. It seems the page will load faster. And with the "delicious" feature of Firefox, I can keep my bookmarks anywhere. And besides I've heard that Firefox is safer than IE. I told my dad to use Firefox, but he gets used to IE and he didn't want to try another one.
I love China

mentalward,
Speaking from experience, I feel that Firefox is still much better than IE. Although, there is much improvements in the latest Internet Explorer, it is still very prone to attacks and known to take up a lot of resources than Firefox and/or other browsers.
Besides, there are much more practical and better applications and add ons in Firefox than Internet Explorer.
Take care.

There is no reason you can't have both Firefox and IE on your computer at the same time. Then each member of the family can use the one he likes best.
I installed Firefox several years ago because I was tired of losing my work every time IE had a glitch. It usually happened right when I was at the end of some long and complicated report that I needed to submit. I rarely have those kinds of problems with Firefox.
Unfortunately, some of the companies I do reports for are only accessible through IE so sometimes I'm stuck using them.
When Firefox first came out there was some bad press about how it would open you to virus attack or damage your computer. This may be one of the reasons your husband objects. However, I've never had any problems with Firefox. It has blocked some viruses and prevented me from making some stupid mistakes. The only time I got a bad virus was in IE.

I have both... but I use Firefox! IE's just here... installed but unused. LOL
Add-ons are like supplements that make a webpage more interactive. Like in Yahoo games, there are some games that won't run unless you install its add-on. That's just what I know about it. :)
Firefox has my vote because it is safer than IE... so far, at least. I think since IE is more popular (largely, because it's what most computers already come with) it's more vulnerable to attacks since these Internet antagonists want to reach more people. And what better way to do that than to work through the most popular browser around... yeah?
For what it's worth, you don't have to take out IE if you want Firefox installed to browse the Internet with. If you just start using Firefox, you'll see the difference and you can just leave IE there... installed but unused. :P

For me, firefox is better, because it loads faster than IE.. web pages are displayed differently.. there are those that is best viewed in IE and there are also those that are best viewed on firefox.. I am using firefox, and when i need IE to open it i just put add-ons so that firefox can display the web page like IE... ^___^

Personally I like Firefox way better the IE, unfortunately there are still a few sites that require IE, but most work with Firefox.
I love the ability to put up multiple web pages in tabs instead of a bunch of windows. I like the ability to make font bigger on sites or smaller.
Firefox just works better for me then IE.

FIREFOX all the way! I used to think Internet Explorer was better too until I noticed that almost every time I would download something, it ALWAYS changed something about my browser. I would notice new toolbars (Search Engines, Buttons, etc. at the top of the browser) that took up half of my screen and homepages that were constantly changing... and, of course, this slowed it down A LOT!
That's when I switched to Firefox, and I haven't had I single problem in years. Not only is Firefox quicker, but its more secure than IE. There are also more updates that are quicker and easier to use than IE and increase Firefox's capability of protecting the user.
That's why I think you should DEFINITELY use FIREFOX!
