Do you ever wonder about how certain phrases developed almost to the point of needing to research it so you can think about other things?
My little bit of pondering last night was driven by the fact that it got down to 21 degrees the night before. I live in southern Tennessee, and that is pretty cold down here! Anyway, I started fixating on the term "hard freeze". Why is it "hard"? Is it because it is hard on plants and animals that are left outside? Is it because it is so far below freezing there is little chance that water won't become hard? Is it because if there is any moisture, the grass gets all crusty?
And I'm not sure, but isn't a freeze around 32 degrees Fahrenheit called a "light freeze"? Should it be called a soft freeze instead?
What phrases or sayings have you fixated on at times?

I must admit that you have me stumped on why the conundrum? Here is my current fixation phrase: radical grace". I want to understand it and have started a discussion on that phrase.
Maybe hard freeze means that it will take a while to thaw... Good question. How about government intelligence? Or here is one for you: If pro is good and con is bad then progress is good and congress would be????

LOL, I have heard the pro and con thing before, it's pretty funny. I'm not sure I've ever heard radical grace before. And aren't oxymorons like government intelligence fun??? :)
One time I got fixated on the derivation of "piggy bank", LOL.

The radical grace is a Christian question. I can not explain. I know that grace means unmerited favor but what does radical have to do with it? I am trying to understand it and I do not really think the term applies in such a way to our discussion here. Radical means extreme and grace unmerited favor... sorry just thinking out loud. Really trying to understand the concept because I think it will make a huge difference in my walk with Christ.
Any way: the subject at hand is phrases that do not make sense together and with that you have made me both laugh and think and I thank you for that.LOL
